Red Sox Schreiber Headed to DL

Red Sox reliever John Schreiber is headed to the DL ( lets not get into it I'm old and it's the DL ) , just a day after DFA-ing Ryan Brasier Alex Cora is set to lose one of his most trusted arms in 2023. After throwing to just one batter last night he left the field with Alex Cora.

Schreiber has seen action in eighteen games this season and posted an ERA of 2.12 but before last night he hadn't pitched since May 6th. On that night he tossed a perfect inning against the Phillies (ahh the good old days) Could this lay off have been due to this lat issue ? Who knows but it sounded like it when Cora spoke to the media. but I'm betting it had something to do with it. Oh the lat issue. Schreiber spoke to reporters after the game about it.

“ It has been tight a little bit this past week. ( His Lat) “ I was throwing some bullpens, it was coming out good. It felt like something I could pitch through. “ Schreiber said “ … tonight it was coming out really good, I Thought. That last pitch ? maybe a little too much extension there and it tightened up “

The recently activated Joely Rodriguez should take some of the pressure off this needed bullpen move. Chris Martin will also see his workload increase a bit over the next 15 days. Kutter Crawford is set to come back as soon as Friday and Josh Winckowski who hasn’t been a strikeout machine but had been solid before his last outing against St. Louis are there to help hold up the bullpen.

The sox are in need of arms out there . two to be exact after the aforementioned Brasier move. According to the wire The Sox have sent Brennan Bernardino back down to Worcester. Could one of those arms be right hander Taylor Broadway ? If there is a god anyone but Kaleb Ort. Justin Garza should also be in the conversation.
