I was asked on the eve of the 2021 MLB season my prediction for the Boston Red Sox season, I gave the same answer I have given since I was nine years old. 162 Wins and a World Series championship. The 162 wins prediction ended on opening day. I’m still processing the latter.

Red Sox GM Chaim Bloom cut, pasted, traded , signed and slapped together a team this season that would have astonished the most ardent Macgyver fan. In December he picked up Garret Whitlock off waivers and signed Hunter Renfroe to a free agent deal. In January he traded for Adam Ottavino in February, he shipped Andrew Benintendi off to the Royals, Then Inked Hirokazu Sawamura and Kike Hernandez. On and On throughout the year Bloom borrowed from Peter to pay Paul and it worked.
The energy that Red Sox fans brought to Fenway Park this postseason was like none other We’ll be back#RedSox | #DirtyWater pic.twitter.com/w8fZoIqQfk — Beyond the Monster: Boston Red Sox (@BeyondtheMnstr) October 23, 2021
Until the trade deadline that is.
Bloom hung his hat on Hansel Robles and Kyle Schwarber. Both would play major parts in the fall rise and fall of the 2021 Red Sox season. Both underline the issue that when push came to shove. The Red Sox were good enough to compete down the stretch and make a push for the postseason. And shove asses into seats. And Good enough to push past the Yankees.. While shoving asses in the seats.Get hot enough to push the Rays to elimination. And shove those asses in the seats. But it wasn’t enough to do what a team with a 200 million dollar payroll is supposed to do. Not good enough to win the pennant.
Where to from here
The 2022 season has already Started for Bloom – Kennedy and the rest of the analytics crew. Chiam has his loaded Woo-Sox team and he should have plenty of cash to throw at one of the best free agent classes in recent memory. I for one can;t wait to see how he goes about this off season and will be glued to the twitter machine and working my behind the scenes “sources” to keep you up with everything going down with the old town team.
