The replay review center is catching more backlash for yet another obstruction call at the plate. This time in the Cleveland Guardians vs Detroit Tigers game on Tuesday. Catcher Austin Hedges ripped up MLB’s replay review center for calling Detroit Tigers shortstop Javier Baez safe after originally being thrown out at the plate during the 1st inning of Tuesday’s game. Officials made the decision to overturn the call after determining that Hedges was blocking the sliding lane before catching the ball. Hedges said after the game :
“This play has been called a few times now recently that really has never been called before. For some reason, New York feels like they have to take over the game and change the way the game is played. Guys are just out. There are plays at home that are beating the runners and for 150 years, you’re out. … Honestly, it’s a disgrace. It’s embarrassing.”
