With the MLB All-Star Break looming and with the MLB Trade Deadline also looming, Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto recently turned down a 15-yr $440 million deal with them. This is looking like Soto does not want to be with the Washington Nationals long-term, despite winning a World Series title with them in 2019. He is only 23 years old and is one of the best players in the game of baseball.
Washington is about to enter a massive rebuild and they are currently the worst team in all of baseball. Juan Soto wants to be on a winning contender and not a loser. What are some of the potential trade packages and teams he can go to?
New York Mets
The New York Mets can use another outfielder bat. He would be another great fit on this baseball team and you can have Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Francisco Lindor in the order. Owner Steve Cohen loves to spend money and general manager Billy Eppler isn’t scared of making big moves for a bat. The Mets are in contention for a World Series title this season.
NYM acquire: OF Juan Soto
WSH acquire: OF/3B Brett Baty (2nd NYM prospect), SS Ronny Mauricio (3rd NYM prospect), OF Alex Ramirez (4th NYM prospect), RHP Matt Allan (6th NYM prospect), OF/1B Dominic Smith, and another player.
New York YankeesÂ
The New York Yankees are currently the best team in all of baseball. Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo are the best hitters on the roster. Imagine a lineup with those two along with Juan Soto? They would be the favorites to win it all and they already are to begin with. General manager Brian Cashman needs to make another big splash.
NYY acquire: OF Juan Soto
WSH acquire: SS Anthony Velope (1st NYY prospect), OF Jasson Dominguez (3rd NYY prospect), C Austin Wells (4th NYY prospect), RHP Luis Gil (9th NYY prospect), OF Joey Gallo, and another player.
Los Angeles DodgersÂ
The Los Angeles Dodgers have done business before with the Washington Nationals. They did it last season when shortstop Trea Turner and starting pitcher Max Scherzer were traded away to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a few prospects. Juan Soto to Los Angeles would be a big-time move and put them as the favorites to win it all. The Dodgers have tons of money.
LAD acquire: OF Juan Soto
WSH acquire: RHP Bobby Miller (2nd LAD prospect), 2B/1B Michael Busch (3rd LAD prospect), OF Andy Pages (4th LAD prospect), Ryan Pepiot (6th LAD prospect), OF Cody Bellinger, and another player.
Houston Astros
The Houston Astros have had home-grown talent over the years and Houston is not known for making big splashes at the trade deadline in the MLB. Houston’s biggest splash as of late was in 2017 when they acquired starting pitcher Justin Verlander. The Astros have some prospects to deal with to the Washington Nationals. They faced each other in the 2019 MLB World Series.
HOU acquire: OF Juan Soto
WSH acquire: RHP Hunter Brown (1st HOU prospect), SS/OF Pedro Leon (3rd HOU prospect), RHP Forrest Whitley (4th HOU prospect), OF Colin Barber (5th HOU prospect), OF Kyle Tucker, and another player.
