Tigers Miggy Still Swinging for 3,000

Miguel Cabrera‘s pursuit of  3,000 hits will last at least one more day after Yankee’s Manager Aaron Boon chose to walk the Detroit legend in his final at bat yesterday.

Long time Tiger Cabrera, needs just one hit to become the 33rd player in MLB history with 3,000 hits. Contrary to the above MLB Tweet, the most this has been talked about is after his intentional walk in the eighth inning of Thursday 3-0 Tigers victory over the New York Yankees. and this is a damn shame

Cabrera flew out in the first inning then struck out in  his next two at-bats. But was due to up again in the eighth.  With two outs, two on and a 1-0 lead he came to bat but with first base open Yankees manager Aaron Boone opted to intentionally walk the two-time MVP, loading the bases and trying to set up a little lefty on lefty crime with Detroit’s Austin Meadows against Yankee southpaw Lucas Luetge.

The crowd at Tigers Stadium  Comerica Park voiced its displeasure with the free pass, coming to their feet booing and chanting “Yankees suck” as Cabrera took his two hundred and thirty first intentional freebie . But those boos quickly turned to cheers when Meadows blooped a two-run double to give Detroit a 3-0 lead. KARMA

Boone defended the decision as a “baseball call for me,” but added it was a “little more gut-wrenching than usual.”

Miggy took the walk in stride. ( Pun intended ) saying “ It’s Baseball “ and pointed out that his “ On Base Percentage  went up “ also telling reporters “  we scored two runs. That’s the beauty of baseball. … I would rather go 0-for-3 and see my team win.” Brilliant

Cabrera will get his next chance at three thousand today when the Tigers welcome the Rockies in for a three game set. I for one hope he gets his knock in front of the home crowd. When it comes and we all know it will come. He will be the first Venezuelan player to get 3K and just the seventh player in MLB history with 3K hits and 500 HR .
