Sunday Summary Just In Case You Missed Something

NFL

  • Carolina Panthers wide receiver Robbie Anderson was sent to the locker room by interim head coach Steve Wilks part way through the Panthers 24-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Anderson was seen earlier in the game having a verbal argument with wide receiver coach Joe Dailey, it was assumed the exchange was do to the fact that Anderson was not a target at all in the 1st half of the game. The wide receiver was later seen sitting away from the team and then sent to the locker room shortly after. Coach Wilks did address the incident in post game :

"No one is bigger than the team. … I don't want to put a lot of energy on one individual. I felt like I wanted to try to get him in at the moment. And that's something that we'll discuss as we further get into the week."

  • The Philadelphia Eagles fended off a 4th quarter push by the Dallas Cowboys, held on to win 26-17 and stay undefeated. Jalen Hurts threw for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns, C.J. Gardner-Johnson grabbed 2 of Philadelphia’s 3 interceptions of Cooper Rush. Eagles coach Nick Sirianni saying after the game :

“We know we’ve got to play a complete game. What’s exciting about being 6-0 and not having played a complete game is we know it’s coming.”

  • Another quarterback went down to a concussion on Sunday. Kenny Pickett went down in the 4th quarter of the Pittsburg Steelers game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mitch Trubisky came off the bench and threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to help hold off the Bucs and come up with the win 20-18. The Steelers finally snapping their 4 game losing streak.

NBA

  • The Los Angeles Lakers are saying point guard Russell Westbrook is currently day-to-day with a left hamstring injury. Westbrook exited Friday's preseason contest against the Sacramento Kings during the 1st quarter with an injury. The Lakers will open their season on Tuesday against the Golden State Warriors.

  • Forward Brandon Clarke and the Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to a 4-year, $52-million contract extension. 26-year-old Clarke is entering the last year of his rookie deal and would have been a restricted free agent next July if they had not come to an agreement before Monday's deadline.

  • Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers has stated that he isn't concerned at this point with the team's possible unprecedented payroll and luxury-tax bill for the 2023-24 season. Myers saying :

"I know what the numbers are. ... I cannot evaluate what we are going to do next season until we see what happens this season."

NHL

  • The Washington Capitals have signed unrestricted free-agent winger Sonny Milano to a 1-year contract worth $750,000. They will place Milano on waivers for assignment to the AHL's Hershey Bears.

  • The normally defensively sound Minnesota Wild have given up 7 goals in each of their 1st two games. Losing 7-2 in their season opener against the New York Rangers and 7-6 against the Los Angeles Kings. Forward Mats Zuccarello showing a bit of his frustration and saying after Saturday's loss :

"You can't expect to win games when you let in 14 goals in two games. Sometimes we play defense like we're a f*&%$g junior team. It's the whole team. We've got to sharpen up."

MLB

  • Gerrit Cole gave the Yankees what they needed, 7 solid innings saving them from the brink of elimination and sending the series back to the Bronx. Harrison Bader hit a 2-run shot lifting the Yankees over the Cleveland Guardians 4-2. Game 5 is tonight at 7:07pm on TBS.
