Sunday Summary Just In Case You Missed Something
NFL
The Philadelphia Eagles took the 1st game of the day, they are NFC Champions and headed to the Superbowl for the 1st time since 2017. Philly beat a completely depleted San Francisco 49er's team 31-7. Rookie quarterback Brock Purdy was taken out in the beginning of the 1st quarter with an elbow injury, his back up Josh Johnson took over and was also taken out in the 3rd quarter with a concussion. Eagles coach Nick Sirianni saying after the game:
“Obviously this is something you dream about as a kid. All these guys on the team have dreamt about this their entire lives, too. Just to be able to do this together with a bunch of men that love each other, that are connected to each other, that will do anything for each other is pretty sweet.”
The AFC Championship game was a much closer matchup. The Kansas City Chiefs are headed back to the Super Bowl for the 3rd time in 4 years after beating the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20. Patrick Mahomes scrabbled for some yards on his hurt ankle and drew a late hit for the 15 yard penalty setting up the 45 yard field goal to give them the win with 3 seconds left in the game. The game came with its fair share of controversy with some things concerning the refs.
The Dallas Cowboys and their offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore have mutually agreed to part ways. The team making the announcement in a statement and further saying the head coach Mike McCarthy will take over the offensive play calling.
NBA
The Phoenix Suns have given the Milwaukee Bucks permission to meet with forward Jae Crowder ahead of the trade deadline. So far, Milwaukee is the only team that has been given permission to meet with Crowder 1 on 1.
New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy has been invited to the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. Murphy is the last player to be invited to the event that will take place on February 18th.
NHL
Carolina Hurricanes beat the Boston Bruins 4-1 on Sunday, handing Boston their 3rd straight loss. Carolinas Sebastian Aho scored a goal for the 4th straight game.
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Matt Murray is expected to be out until sometime after the all-star break, siting an ankle injury.
MLB
The San Francisco Giants have agreed to a contract with veteran catcher Roberto Perez. Details of the contract have not been released yet. The 34-year-old spent the 2022 season with the Pittsburg Pirates.
The Philadelphia Phillies and infielder Josh Harrison have reached an agreement on a 1-year, $2million contract for the 2023 season.
