Sunday Summary In Case You Missed Something


NFL


  • The Miami Dolphins went into a must win game against the New England Patriots on Sunday with backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater getting the start. He is starting in place of Tua Tagovailoa, who is still under concussion protocol (for 2nd time this season). Miami was leading 14-10 in the 3rd quarter when Patriots safety Kyler Duggar snagged the interception, returning it for a touchdown. Bridgewater suffered a right finger injury during that play and had to leave the game. New England went on to win 16-14.


  • Week 18 Saturday schedule is set: Game 1- Kansas City Chiefs at the Las Vegas Raiders @ 4:30 p.m. ET on Jan. 7. Game 2- Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans will faceoff at 8:15 p.m. ET. Week 18 Sunday schedule will fully be released after Monday Night Football tonight.



  • The Denver Broncos have reached out to Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh about their coaching vacancy. Denver fired 1st year head coach Nathaniel Hackett on Monday after a calamitous rookie season.





NBA


  • Two NBA conference leaders facing-off ending with a Denver Nuggets win over the Boston Celtics 123-111. Nikola Jokic had 30 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists, while Bruce Brown contributed 21 points for Denver. Jaylen Brown scored 30 points and Jayson Tatum contributed 25 to the loss. There was a long 35 minute delay in the game with about 6:43 left to play. There were issues with a rim that was bent during a dunk.



  • The Dallas Mavericks just barely fended off the San Antonio Spurs 126-125 on Saturday night. Luka Doncic does it again, scoring 51 points, with 9 rebounds and 6 assists. The 23-year-old has topped 50 points in 3 out of their last 5 games. ( 50pts against Houston Rockets on 12/23, 60pts against NY Knicks on 12/27, 51pts against San Antonio Spurs on 12/31)



  • Gary Payton, who was acquired by the Portland Trailblazers in the off-season, will be available Monday to make his franchise debut. Payton had core surgery in July after he signed a 3 year, $28 million contract with the team.




NHL


  • Erik Karlsson extended his point streak to13 games, which is a San Jose Sharks franchise record. The Sharks beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2 on Sunday night. 35-year-old veteran defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic saying about Karlsson:

“Every shift he's creating something. He's dangerous every time he's on the ice.”



  • The Dallas Stars have signed 38-year-old veteran forward Joe Pavelski to a 1 year contract extension. The deal comes with a base salary of $3.5 million and possibility of up to $2 million in performance bonuses.



  • The Carolina Hurricanes edged out the New Jersey Devils 5-4 on Sunday. This was the Hurricanes 11th straight win, a franchise best. Andrei Svechnikov scored the shootout winner and Antti Raanta made 24 saves in the win.
