Sox In Sell Mode on Verdugo ? Big Mistake

Mass Live's Chris Cotillio reported before the Sox dropped the series yesterday vs the San Francisco Giants that the team is willing to listen to offers for right fielder Alex Verdugo. Is the Red Sox Chief of B.O. set to move the second of his three pieces from the Mookie Betts trade ?

While Jeter Downs was supposed to be the big piece in the Betts deal it had turned out that it was Alex Verdugo who would turn into the fan favorite and everyday player.. It was Verdugo who would be the salve on the burn that has never truly healed. Downs is now M.I.A. in the Nationals system, Connor Wong the deals throw in is riding the tide here in Boston hitting a respectable .250/.306/.402 for the big club while being everything and more anyone could have hoped for when Christian Vazquez was shipped off to Houston at last years deadline, even now mired in his worst month of service to the Sox Verdugo is slashing .272/.345/.274 for the big club. His defense has been on point and his locker room presence is close to unmatched here in Boston.

The Sox are 8 games back in the division but just 2 ½ games back in the race for the 33rd wildcard spot . ( WTF has happened to baseball ) to sell now on Verdugo would be the worst message to send this team. A team looking to its “ leadership “ to show it believes in them. A team whose stars are looking for the suits to show they are with them in a chase for a postseason spot. If you are going to sell on Alex Verdugo then sell off every piece you can. Every player not under control after this season should be in the conversation. These players . They don't care about the future. To every player on this roster the future is now.
