Shohei Ohtani shows his face in Boston. Boston Loses its Mind

Updated: Sep 15, 2023

For a brief moment yesterday Red Sox Nation lost it's marbles as news of Shohei Ohtani visit to Boston streaked across the interwebs. But New England saw where his 6’4 shadow laid and went back to bed..

You see the best two way player since Babe Ruth was in town expanding his endorsement empire to include Boston based New Balance. Yes, the man who has been MLB's Daddy since entering MLB is now endorsing Daddy Kicks. Sorry folks no trade to Boston is happening for the Japanese superstar. More's the pity. But could this lead to something down the line? Say in Free Agency ? You Bet it could.

Let's be honest here folks. Chaim Bloom has sent Mookie Betts packing. For close to nothing in return. He allowed Xander to walk out the door. For Absolutely Nothing. Do you truly think he would try to acquire a player set to make over half a billion in free agency at the end of the year? Don’t Bet on it. “Those Bets don’t work out,” remember.

Ohtani is not just the Daddy at the mound or at the plate he is the Daddy of MLB marketing. as he is now tied to seventeen different brands. In this day and age that's amazing. Adding New Balance just adds to his already massive bottom line. One that he will no doubt continue to expand as not only the best player we have ever seen. But the most marketable in it's history.

Ohtani avoided arbitration in October by agreeing to a one-year, $30 million contract for the 2023 season. A month before that, Ohtani said he was left with a “negative impression” following the Angels’ third-place finish in 2022, making a long-term deal with Los Angeles unlikely. It seems more likely than not he will bolt at the end of this season. Where too ? i don't know. What i do know is if Bloom is still running the show here it wont be Boston. But who's to say Bloom will still be running the show here in Boston?
