Red Sox Trade For Right-Hander To Bolster AA Pitching Depth. Film at 11
The Boston Red Sox are sticking to the new Standard Operation Procedure of designating pitchers for assignment and then trading those hurlers away days later. For not much help. yesterday the Red Sox sent righty Franklin German to the Chicago White Sox for fellow right-hander Theo Denlinger according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo.
German was designated for assignment Monday to make room for leftie reliever Richard Bleier on the 40 man roster. Blooms off season seems to be shaping up as the something is better than nothing approach.
At 26, Denlinger is just coming off his first Double-A cup of coffee. Thats almost ancient . The only level he had any success at was as a 24 year old in Single-A during the 2021 season. Outside of that season his ERA is much higher (4.47) than you would like to see for a true prospect. He does show a glimmer when it comes to throwing strikes with a 3.14 strikeout to walk ration in 2022. But those numbers were bolstered by competition at single A+ Winston Salem. While pitching for AA Bermingham he was much less successful 2.72. The only upside here is why the man was drafted in the first place (notice i didn't say kid 26) is his velocity. Delinger lives in the 90’s and can reached back for upper 90’s with his fastball. Throwers not Pitchers is page one of the scouting bible in this century. This is where you get his unreal K per 9 number of 13.4 …..
What Bloom has done is keep live arms at the lower levels while bolstering this pen. so truly you cant get on him for that... Yet Ryan Brasier is still here.
