Red Sox Sweep Yankees. Houston you Have a Problem

Despite blowing four leads the Red sox beat the yankees for the eighth time in nine meetings on Sunday …. Yea we are goin to hold here for a moment while I try to wipe the smile from my face.

Okay .. no wait … now okay. In 2023 the sox by hook or by crook have completely dominated the Yankees. Aaron Judge ? Pffft … Garrett Cole ? Please. Late inning pinstriped comebacks , Think again. Boston slid into Sunday's matinée with two games in pocket and had no intention of resting on their laurels. Raffy Devers tore into the first pitch he saw from Yankee righty Clarke Schmitt it went foul. After working a full count he took pitch six 380 feet into the right field grandstands. It looked as if the Sox who had won games one and two by a 16-4 margin were off to the races again. They weren't.

Yanks catcher Kyle Higashioki answered in the bottom half of the third with his own blast off Nick Pivetta. That's where things stayed until the sixth when they traded runs and the seventh where they swapped 3 run home runs by Turner and Volpe in the top and bottom. It was 5-5 heading into the late innings. In the eighth the Yankees threatened to take the lead on a Kiner-falefa single and a Billy McKinney sac fly that moved him over to second. Anthony Volpe singled to left and Kinner- Falefa tried to score from second when Rob Refsnyder slipped fielding the two hopper. NOPE not a good idea, Refsnyder to Story to Wong, Have a seat Mr. Kiner-Falefa. In the top of the ninth Turner doubled home Pablo Reyes for the winning run. Didn't even matter that Kenly Jansen put the first two batters on in the bottom half as Kenley struck out Judge and Gleyber Torres and got Ben Rortvedt to fly out to center.

The Sox had themselves a weekend and a sweep of the evil empire. Thanks in large part to Raffy Devers and Justin Turner, they had themselves a weekend. Devers went 9-13 homered twice and drove in four runs. While Turner was 6-11 with a home run and six RBI on the weekend, four of those riblets came on Sunday. Not bad for a guy on one foot. Anyway the Underdogs are headed to Houston hot at the plate and on the heels of the Mariners for the last WC spot. The sox have outscored the Yanks 54-24 on the season .... And theres that smile again.
