When the Red Sox dropped the first two of this four game set I thought to myself. I hate always being right. Then the Sox proved me wrong. I LOVE IT. I thought going into last night’s finally the old town team would ride the wave of Alex Verdugo’ late and extra innings heroics. I was wrong again,
Here We Go Again
They fell behind 6-2 to the evil empire as Giancarlo Stanton and Matt ( someone test him) Carpenter went yard early with pairs of two run homers. The Yankee’s bats put up crooked numbers in each of the first three innings. But Christian Vazquez wouldn’t allow me to sit in the corner wearing a dunce cap. He got the Sox bats going with a dinger of his own in the third and then a RBI double in the fifth Then JD remembered he was a Martinez and went oppo for his Ninth HR of the season. The comeback wasn’t just on it was a new ballgame. 6-6 after five. Then it all broke wide open in the seventh .
Martinez got on because Anthony Rizzo of all people couldn’t scoop up a Kiner-Falefa throw from short. Bogaerts worked a six pitch walk – Verdugo singled to right, loading the bases for Trevor Story . If Story went up there with a plan to go yard he wasn’t far off. Just missing a Granny to deep center a foot or two from the HR line that separates the Center field wall and the Monster. He cleared the bases and the Sox were now up 10-6. There was much rejoicing. Story would make it 11- 6 on a Franchy sacrifice and a throwing error by thanks, oops Yanks pitcher Albert Abraeu.
Dropping the first two of this four game set had me hearing nails pounded into coffins. The Sox weren’t having it. They grabbed a claw hammer and pulled those nails out of that pine box with pitching – defense – timely hitting and split that lid and the series 2-2. Now they are on to Tampa. Yes another four game set , riding a wave of confidence and armed with Chris Sale .
