The Red Sox and NESN paid tribute to the late great Jerry Remy on wednesday. The only issue to a beautiful ceremony was the lack of Jerrys fifteen year partner in the Red Sox booth Don Orsillo.

Sadly, I was notified by Red Sox/NESN that my video would no longer be needed for tonight’s ceremony. Orsillo could not attend the ceremony in person because he was calling the Padres’ game against the Reds in San Diego. Don tweeted late Wednesday night that he had initially been offered an opportunity to do a video message for the ceremony, but that he was later “notified by Red Sox/NESN that my video would no longer be needed for tonight’s ceremony.”
Of course Red Sox nation lost their twitter-minds after hearing that one of the most beloved broadcasters in the history of this town was shut out of this moment. Denied the opportunity to tell the world how much Jerry meant to him as a broadcast partner, a friend and a human being.

Chad Finn of the Boston Globe was able to talk with the Red Sox. who said
“ Orsillo was invited to attend in person, but couldn’t make it. added that while a video had been discussed, no promises were made and videos were ultimately not part of the ceremony.”
Update with the other side of the story: Red Sox say they did invite him, but he told them he couldn't make it. (Padres did have a game today.) Even if true this is a low rent move by the Red Sox and NESN.
Here in New England Remy and Orsillo go together like Gorman and Heinsohn – Fred and Ginger or Bert and Earnie. They are synonymous with one another. This region is still upset Orsillo was sent out west to San Diego in the first place. This seems to this writer as another slap in the face to not only Don but to Jerry and all of you as well. And it begs the question. Has all this been personal ? it doesn’t seem to be business.
