Red Sox Go 0-19 WRISP in Double Header Sweep by Yankees

Most of the noise today will be left on the doorstep of the pitching staff that once again managed not to get out of the 5th inning in either of yesterday's games. Nick Pivetta went 5.1 in the opener and pitched great for 4 of those innings but gave up all three of the yankees runs on the day during that final third he was sent out for and took the 3-2 L... In the nightcap Kutter Crawford managed just 4.2 innings of work before Cora pulled the plug on his 7K evening. And the Yanks went on to take the second game 4-1… it's the 2 and 1 runs We’re here to talk about.

ZERO For Nineteen

Nineteen Times ( Ed Rooney Voice ) the Red Sox came to the plate yesterday and didn't get a hit, couldn't put bat on ball and find a hole. Devers went yard in game one and Casas scored after a wall scraping double, a FC and a wild pitch. and Rafaela led off game two with a solo shot. Nineteen times, men reached scoring position in this day nighter and no one not one professional hitter not one man who gets paid to do this for a living could drive a teammate in.

To be honest in game one there wasn't much of an opportunity. 0-4 (Devers 0-1, Yoshida 0-1, Rafaela 0-1, Verdugo 0-1) but in game two. Fifteen opportunities to do what you get paid to do and ZIP - ZILCH - NADA . 0-15 (Abreu 0-1, Reyes 0-1, Refsnyder 0-1, Story 0-2, Wong 0-3, Duvall 0-3, Turner 0-1, Casas 0-1, Rafaela 0-2) the entire lineup whiffed. In game two Turner Casa and Duvall were a combined 1-11 at the dish and had five chances between them to do damage. Crickets. Even with the short stints from the starters there was ample chance to get runs on the board with the pen holding things down and win both ends of this travesty. But like .500 teams do. When you pitch you don't hit and when you hit you don't pitch. And that's how you end up tied for last place in the AL East.
