After being swept by the floundering Blue Jays the Red Sox needed to hit the ground and the ball running in Texas last night, and that's just what they did . Kutter Crawford went 6 innings giving up just two runs on four hits and the pen shut down the Rangers lineup in the seventh, eighth, and ninth. Rob Refsnyder - Adam Duvall and Luis Urias drive in the Sox runs and Bobby Dalbec had a pair of hits standing in for future hall of famer Triston Casas who was shut down for the year with a boo-boo shoulder. Game two down in the cow barn in Arlington tonight at 8:05.. And that's what brought you here isn't it ? Yep
Old friend Nasty Nate Eovaldi takes the hill. You all remember Nate. he of the 10 worst moves in Chaim Bloom's 4 year tenure here in Boston The Man he let walk out the door. No, I don't care what contract negotiation scenario you want to go with. He was a Red Sox now he isn't and bloom could have signed him and he didn't. I also could care less the Nasty man had to be shut down for a period of time in 2023. Baseball happens. But let's digress shall we?
Eovaldi has been ramping it back up since his late July trip to the DL, it's been a bit rocky to this point. 4 runs on 5 hits in his first inning and a third back vs the Astros , then no runs and 3 hits in his second outing vs the A’s. in his last tune up before tonight Eovaldi went three and a third against the Jays and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits in three and a third. His ERA skyrocketed from 2.69 on July 18th to 2.96 before he takes the hill tonight against his old mates. Well a few of his old mates. In his first outing vs Boston ( just 2 starts before the DL trip ) Nate went five and a third he gave up 4 runs on five hits. No matter tonight's outcome, win, lose or lose badly , most of the right thinking people in Boston will consider Nate Eovaldi one of the ones Bloom let get away.
