Red Sox Adam Duvall Return a Double Blessing
Updated: May 27
In a great piece last week by MassLive’s Chris Smith AKA Smitty, he reported Alex Cora was on board with Adam Duvall’s prediction that he was eyeing a June 9th return from his broken wrist and the 60 day DL. Smitty reported that the center fielder was hitting both off a tee and soft toss. Both great signs. Cora told Masslive “ there’s a chance “ about the June 9th date … you should see my smile.
Good thing i have a clue .... If , the if is ( only about the ninth) when this does happen it could two fold help the red sox lineup. Jarren Duran hasn't been on base in his last five games. Not one hit or a walk in his past nineteen plate appearances. Now while I am not advocating his demotion. There is a move that needs to be made when Duvall comes off the DL. you know what my next paragraph is going to be about. You're all smart people. You all know the score.
Triston Casas has to go. I don't care where he goes or what logjam they have to deal with. Triston has shown he isn't ready for prime time; his .181/.312/.354 slash line is all the proof you need. Or your eyes. You all have good eyes. Not even reading glasses are needed in this situation. “ wow Murph super aggressive “ ( Editor's Note ) note to self fire editor.
So Murph what's the answer you have for Red Sox Nation you ask? You guys ask great questions. A timeshare in center, at first and DH. Duvall has some experience at first. He’s played 37 big league games there. We all know Justin Turner can also play the position. But at their ages Duvall is 34 and Turner the elder statesman of the 2023 Red Sox is 38, it would be prudent to keep both out of a full time role at the position. A rotation between the three players and three positions along with days off or ½ days at DH with Masataka Yoshida and Alex Verdugo and yes even Rafael Devers could help this team in a big way. and fill the void at first base Bloom has ignored in his wishful thinking bunker that Casas or Dalbec could be even marginally helpful at the spot.
