Pittsburgh Steelers Win Whacky Game Over Cincinnati Bengals

There is a reason why the NFL always has crazy games week in and week. This was the first week of the 2022 NFL regular season and the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals had a crazy sequence of events.  Chris Boswell made the 53-yard field goal as time expired for Pittsburgh in a 23-20 win over Cincinnati.

This game had so many crazy sequences to begin with. When it was 20-14 Pittsburgh, Joe Burrow threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Ja’Marr Chase on a fourth-down play with two seconds remaining. It appeared as if the Bengals were going to win the game on the ensuing extra point, but it was blocked by Minkah Fitzpatrick and that is how the game was sent to overtime.

Joe Burrow completed 33-of-53 passes for 338 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions. He also rushed for 47 yards on six carries.

Ja’Marr Chase caught 10 passes for 129 yards receiving and one touchdown. He was their only bright spot on the day in the receiving category though.

Joe Mixon rushed for 82 yards on 27 carries for the Cincinnati Bengals.

On the same drive that tied the game, T.J. Watt came off the field and did not return for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He said that is possible that he has a torn pectoral muscle and could be out for the rest of the 2022 season. Pittsburgh’s defense forced five turnovers in this football game and almost lost it.

With 3:37 remaining in overtime, Evan McPherson missed a 29-yard field goal for Cincinnati because of a bad snap.

On the next drive, Chris Boswell missed a 55-yard field goal for the Pittsburgh Steelers off the upright.

Mitchell Trubisky played turnover-free football in his first start with completing 21-of-38 passes for 194 yards and one touchdown for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Chase Claypool was their leading rusher with 36 yards on six carries, with Najee Harris being held to 23 yards rushing on 10 carries.

Pat Freiermuth was their leading receiver with five receptions for 75 yards receiving for Pittsburgh.

This was an ugly football game on both sides where it felt like neither of these teams deserved to win and it should have ended in a tie instead. We will see where this goes from here for both teams.

The Cincinnati Bengals have dealt with a potential Super Bowl LVI hangover after the loss last year against the Los Angeles Rams though.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (1-0) will host the New England Patriots (0-1) next Sunday.

The Cincinnati Bengals (0-1) will be on the road against the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday.
