Phillies Arms set for Game One and Two

Some Light has been shed on the Phillies pitching plans. The Athletic’s Matt Gelb reported today : Aaron Nola will start Game 1 of the World Series. And The Phillies will send Zack Wheeler to the hill in Game 2. Philadelphia Manager Rob Thomson said there will be a few changes to the roster this go round, but that won’t be set in stone until Friday. So sit and wait on that.

Nola finished the regular season at 11-13 with a 3.25 ERA in 32 starts for the Phillies. He was lights out for the Cheese Steaks in the first two rounds of the postseason. Beating the Cardinals in the wild card round in one of the best pitching duels I've seen 2-0 where he threw 6 ⅔ of scoreless ball striking out 6 Cardinals. Nola backed that up with another great performance in game three of the NLDS going 6 innings and just 4 hits against the Braves. Nola again took the Hill but this time the Loss in the NLCS against the Padre’s when he gave up 6 runs on seven hits. Raising his 2022 postseason ERA from ZERO to 3.25.

The Phillies game two starter Zack Wheeler has been a workhorse this postseason for the Phillies. He has taken the ball in game one of the WC round going 6 ⅓ giving up just nothing to the Cards while striking out 4. He took the hill again in game two against the Braves taking a 3-0 loss after giving up all three of Atlanta’s runs. But bounced back as well as anyone could hope in his two NLCS starts, throwing 7 one hit innings while striking out 8 in game one. then shutting the door on the Pads in game seven with six innings and striking out 8. The lone mistake was a Solo HR to Juan Soto. he stands at 1-1 with 2 no decisions and a miniscule ERA of 1.78 in this postseason.
