Patrick Mahomes Has Taken the Lead In the NFL MVP Race

The Kansas City Chiefs were tested on the road on Sunday night football against the Los Angeles Chargers. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes II put Kansas City on his back once again. After Justin Herbert threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Joshua Palmer with 1:46 remaining in regulation, the Chiefs found themselves trailing 27-23.

Mahomes led them marching right down the field and he threw the game-winning touchdown pass to Travis Kelce from 17 yards out with:31 seconds remaining in regulation. The Kansas City Chiefs took down the Los Angeles Chargers by a final score of 30-27.

Patrick Mahomes hasn't lost in the month of November or December in a very long time and that is something special. He refuses to lose and has the Chiefs currently as the number-one seed in the AFC. Mahomes completed 20-of-34 passes for 329 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 23 yards on four carries.

With this performance, it is clear that Patrick Mahomes II is probably the betting favorite to win the 2022 NFL MVP Award. He has won it once before and it wouldn't be surprising to win it for the second time ever in his NFL career. Mahomes II has been a lot better than Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen as of late.

Travis Kelce caught six passes for 115 yards receiving and three touchdowns. He caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes in the second quarter and also a 32-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Kelce has owned the Los Angeles Chargers over the years.

As for Mahomes himself, he has completed 66.3% of his passes for 3,265 yards passing, 28 touchdowns, and seven interceptions so far this season. Patrick Mahomes II has also rushed for 238 yards on 38 carries and one touchdown. He is on a potential pace to throw for over 5,000 yards and forty touchdowns for the 2022 NFL regular season with seven games to play.

They are on track to be the number one seed once again in the AFC because of him this season. He is one of the main reasons why the Los Angeles Chargers, the Las Vegas Raiders (3-7), and the Denver Broncos (3-7) are what they are, not very good football teams. If Patrick Mahomes II doesn't win the NFL MVP this season for the second time in his NFL career, it would come as a major surprise at this point.

A lot of credit goes to head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. They lost wide receiver Tyreek Hill in the offseason via trade with the Miami Dolphins. This is just Travis Kelce and a bunch of no-namers that Patrick Mahomes II is working with so far this season. Some wide receivers are also out due to injury at the current moment.

The Kansas City Chiefs (8-2) next football game will be at home against the Los Angeles Rams (3-7) on Sunday, 11/27.

The Los Angeles Chargers (5-5) next football game will be on the road against the Arizona Cardinals (4-6) on Sunday, 11/27.
