NL East Weekend Recap 8/14

Is it safe to say the Mets are the hottest team in baseball? That depends on who’s asking. The Atlanta Braves are back 5 ½ games as we head into the middle of August. Will Atlanta make a push to win the division? Philadelphia is clinging to the last wildcard spot in the NL.  The NL East will have plenty of representation come playoff time!

New York Mets (75-40)

8/12 Vs. Phillies (L 2-1 10 IN)

8/13 Vs. Phillies (W 1-0)

8/14 Vs. Phillies (W 6-0)

Taking two out of three versus the Phillies was a continuation of the Met’s dominance so far in the 2022 season. Jacob deGrom was outstanding on Saturday as he pitched six shutout innings. Currently, with a 5 ½ game lead in the NL East, New York Mets  have a bit of breathing room from Atlanta.

Round of applause for this weekend’s starting pitchers! 👏👏👏#ForTheA pic.twitter.com/qaLnR9sOIF — Atlanta Braves (@Braves) August 14, 2022

Atlanta Braves (70-46)

8/12 @ Marlins (W 4-3)

8/13 @ Marlins (W 5-2)

8/14 @ Marlins (W 3-1)

Atlanta will gladly leave Miami with a sweep. Pitching was the primary catalyst for the Braves winning the series’ last two games. After winning it all last year, Atlanta has felt the pressure of repeating.  Can they go all the way in October? We will all have to see!

Philadelphia Phillies (63-51)

8/12 @ NY Mets (W 2-1 10 IN)

8/13 @ NY Mets (L 1-0)

8/14 @ NY Mets (L 6-0)

After taking the first game of this series, the Phillies got shut out on Saturday and Sunday. Aaron Nola on Saturday pitched very well but couldn’t overcome the power of deGrom. The bright spot is that they still hold a playoff spot going into this upcoming week.

Miami Marlins (50-65)

8/12 Vs. Atlanta (L 4-3)

8/13 Vs. Atlanta (L 5-2)

8/14 Vs. Atlanta (L 3-1)

The Marlins’ effort in all three games was noticeable all weekend. Playing in the NL East this year for Miami has not been kind to them. Miami does have a chance to play spoiler to teams like Atlanta and Philadelphia in their quest for a playoff spot.

Washington Nationals (38-78)

8/12 Vs. Padres (L 10-5)

8/13 Vs. Padres (W 4-3)

8/14 Vs. Padres (6-0)

Anytime you win a game as a Major League Baseball team, it calls for some celebration. The Washington Nationals did just that when winning on Saturday night 4-3. Not much has gone right in Washington this year, but a close win against a playoff team in San Diego sure helps.
