NHL Draft 2022: Top 15 Goalies

The NHL Draft in 2022 will not be very deep in terms of the goalies. It is very rare these days for goalies to be drafted in the first round. Three goalies were drafted in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft. There will be goalies projected to go in the second round, third round, and beyond. Not a lot of quality goalies will be found in this NHL Draft, but it will be more for depth purposes. They won’t be called on Round 1, when it takes place on July 7, in Montreal Quebec, at the Bell Centre, but it may be the case in Round 2-7 on July 8. Who are the top goalies in the 2022 NHL Draft?

1.Name: Topias Leinonen

Height: 6’5″

Weight: 233 lbs

Last Amateur Club: JYP Jr.

League: Finland Jr.

Age: 18

Stats: 21 games played, 2.28 GAA, .916 save percentage, and two shutouts.

NHL Scouting Report: He has had his ups and downs overseas, but has some potential to be really good. Topias Leionen is probably the best goalie in the 2022 NHL Draft and will see how it all plays out when the time comes for Leinonen and needs more reps.

NHL Comp: Pekka Rinne

2. Name: Tyler Brennan

Height: 6’4″

Weight: 185 lbs

Last Amateur Club: Prince George

League: WHL

Age: 18

Stats: 39 games played, 3.58 GAA, .899 save percentage, and four shutouts.

NHL Scouting Report: He moves very well laterally and his numbers are misleading to scouts. Tyler Brennan will have some with his puck handling with other NHL coaches and Brennan also has great reflexes and also has excellent size.

NHL Comp: Thatcher Demko

3. Name: Ivan Zhigalov

Height: 6’3″

Weight: 167 lbs

Last Amateur Club: Sherbrooke

League: QMJHL

Age: 19

Stats: 42 games played, 2.84 GAA, .892 save percentage, and zero shutouts.

NHL Scouting Report: He has been training to be a goalie ever since he was four years old. Ivan Zhigalov was undrafted last season and was invited to Montreal Canadiens camp, but couldn’t attend and Zhigalov wants to be the best goalie in the world, but does he have the elite spatial awareness to be one?

NHL Comp: Carey Price

4. Name: Dylan Silverstein

Height: 6’0″

Weight: 179 lbs

Last Amateur Club: USA U-18

League: NTDP

Age: 18

Stats: 20 games played, 3.52 GAA, .878 save percentage, and two shutouts.

NHL Scouting Report: Silverstein is very athletic, but he has some red flags about him that might drop him to the mid-rounds of the 2022 NHL Draft. Dylan Silverstein needs to learn to slow the game down and not rely on his athleticism so much and needs to work on his mechanics.

NHL Comp: Curtis McElhinney

5. Name: Hugo Havelid

Height: 5’10”

Weight: 170 lbs

Last Amateur Club: Linkoping Jr.

League: Sweden-Jr.

Age: 18

Stats: 28 games played, 1.82 GAA, .920 save percentage, and five shutouts.

NHL Scouting Report: He has skyrocketed up draft boards because of his breakout season. Hugo Havelid is a butterfly goalie and has strong vision to his game and Havelid has small size which may be a concern for some front office people in the NHL though.

NHL Comp: Casey DeSmith

6. Name: Tyler Muszelik

Height: 6’2″

Weight: 195 lbs

Last Amateur Club: USA U-18

League: NTDP

Age: 17
