NFL Draft 2023 AFC South Quarterback Hunting?

There are only two weeks left in the 2022 NFL regular season. The AFC South has been one of the weakest divisions in the NFL this season. The Jacksonville Jaguars currently lead it with a 7-8 record over the Tennessee Titans at also a 7-8 record with two weeks to play in the NFL regular season.

Jacksonville is on track to win the division for the first time since the 2017 regular season when they lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. Trevor Lawrence is the best quarterback in the AFC South for the Jaguars. They are the only team in the AFC South that is set at that position for quite some time. Will it be quarterback hunting for the AFC South in the 2023 NFL Draft or not?

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are set to have the number one overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Houston is most likely going to move off of Davis Mills and they gave him a shot for two seasons, but the Texans need to get this thing right after the whole Deshaun Watson fiasco.

Houston will have their choice with either Will Levis out of Kentucky, C.J. Stroud out of Ohio State, or Bryce Young out of Alabama for the quarterback position. All three of them have higher upside than Davis Mills does. Stroud would be the best bet here for the Houston Texans.

Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts currently own the fifth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Indianapolis needs to invest their draft pick in a quarterback. They need to make sure that general manager Chris Ballard is not making this selection and have a different general manager for it. Nick Foles, Matt Ryan, and Sam Elhinger are the current quarterback room for the Colts.

Ever since Andrew Luck retired, they have been using different quarterbacks. Jacoby Brissett, Brian Hoyer, Philip Rivers, and Carson Wentz are some of those names. The Indianapolis Colts need stability at this position. With Stroud off the board here, they should go with Bryce Young from Alabama, but knowing owner Jim Irsay, they might go with the "higher upside" with Will Levis from Kentucky.

Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans currently own the 13th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Tennessee can wind up in the Top 10 if things bounce right for them. That would mean they'd lose their final two games and other teams would need to win some games. If they stay in this spot, it would be interesting to see what they would do.

The Atlanta Falcons at the sixth selection and the Carolina Panthers at the eighth selection would need to potentially draft a quarterback. If one of those two teams takes Bryce Young from Alabama, that would mean that Tennessee would draft Anthony Richardson from Florida. That may not be the primary option for the Titans.

They will have a new general manager. Head coach Mike Vrabel will need to trade up to potentially the third spot with the Seattle Seahawks or the fourth spot with the Arizona Cardinals to get what they want potentially. Ryan Tannehill is an older veteran and they may want to get out of his contract and Malik Willis isn't it in the long term. They also need to find a viable offensive coordinator and get rid of Todd Downing in order to find a necessary long-term quarterback to develop properly.

Teams need to compete with these four primary quarterbacks in the AFC: Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, and Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers.
