New York Jets Must Look Elsewhere at Quarterback In 2023

Entering the day, the New York Jets were 6-3 and the New England Patriots were 5-4. New England took down New York and the first time. The Patriots won the game on an 84-yard punt return for a touchdown by Marcus Jones with five seconds remaining in regulation as they took down the Jets by a final score of 10-3.

One of the biggest stories for New York in this loss was how well the defense played despite the defeat and how bad quarterback Zach Wilson was. It may be time for the New York Jets to look for a different quarterback in 2023. The Jets' defense recorded six sacks on Mac Jones today and it went for nothing because of how horrendous Wilson was.

He has no pocket awareness and doesn't know how to find the open man. Zach Wilson completed 9-of-22 passes for 77 yards passing. The Jets had more punts, with 10 of them in this football game than completions. This is also the 14 consecutive time the New England Patriots have defeated the New York Jets.

This is also the second time in the past calendar year that the New York Jets have punted more times in a football game than completed passes. It occurred in Week 18 last season on 1/09/2022, against the Buffalo Bills on the road.

This means that it is time for the Jets to move on from Wilson. They can't let this talented roster go to waste. This isn't head coach Robert Saleh or general manager Joe Douglass's fault he has been so bad. Douglass has been very good at building this roster but needs to admit that he was wrong about drafting Wilson second overall a couple of years ago.

The New York Jets need to go trade for Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr in the offseason. New York currently has the fourth-best quarterback in the AFC East. Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins are miles better ahead of Zach Wilson of the New York Jets. Mac Jones is a lot better for the New England Patriots and he's the third-best quarterback in the AFC East.

Wilson has weapons like Breece Hall, James Robinson, Elijah Moore, Garrett Wilson Jr., Braxton Berrios, Corey Davis, and C.J. Uzomah, but they don't have the right quarterback to take them where they want to go. If the New York Jets miss the playoffs, all of the blame is going to go on second-year quarterback Zach Wilson. The New York media is going to go off on him tomorrow sometime on the radio and within the coming weeks.

Don't blame the special teams for this loss. Zach Wilson couldn't get them to the opponent's 35-yard line. That loss falls on him, not the special teams.

With the loss, the New York Jets fall to last place in the AFC East despite the improvement this season. Zach Wilson is lucky that Joe Flacco and Mike White are not qualified enough to take over his starting quarterback job this late into the season.

The New England Patriots (6-4) next football game will be on the road on Thanksgiving night Thursday, 11/24 against the Minnesota Vikings (8-1).

The New York Jets (6-4) next football game will be at home on Sunday 11/27 against the Chicago Bears (3-8).
