The NBA announced this week that they will have five games for your enjoyment on Christmas…. Since 1947 The NBA has played games on Christmas day. On that December 25th the New York Knicks beat the Providence Steam Rollers at MSG 89-75. And with the exception of the 1998 lockout year. The NBA has been ruining Christmas every year since. . This year will be no different with five games , ten teams set to square off against one another for the privilege of what ? I’ll tell you , I don’t know.

My reasoning
I’ve always despised the NBA for forcing its players to work on Christmas day. Not because I feel particularly bad for the players themselves. I do . but not as badly as I feel for everyone else involved. The camera guys and ticket takers. The concession workers who pour your beer and fill your popcorn buckets, the crew in the TV trucks and the drivers who hauled them there. Christmas is a day for families and the NBA in its greed takes thousands of men and women away from their families in order to line their pockets with as much cash as they possibly could. But wait there’s more. The trickle down effect. Your favorite pub to stop into before or after the game needs a barkeep and the restaurants all need cooks and waitstaff to attend to your needs. Extra police and EMS people are dragged away from their holiday dinners to keep us safe and secure. And let’s not forget the writers who would rather be home setting up “ Their Kids “ model train sets. Also don’t come at me with Thanksgiving and the NFL or that this Christmas is on a Sunday and there is a full slate of football.
