Mets Ace Max Scherzer Out Six to Eight Weeks

Flushing: The Mets announced today that Max Scherzer will miss between six and eight weeks with a Moderate to High oblique strain. Anyone shocked ? Anyone ? Bueller , Bueller ? This hits particularly hard with Jacob DeGrom on the DL ( Its DL not IL ) who has not pitched yet this season with a “stress reaction” to his scapula. And Taylor McGill hitting the list with bicep inflammation earlier this week.

The Mets have been one of the best teams in MLB this spring (25-14 ). A full six games ahead of the Phillies. Scherzer pulled himself from his start in the sixth inning of Wednesday’s matchup vs the Cardinals.

After pulling out of the game Scherzer said

” I felt a ZING in my left side and just knew i was done. Hopefully I got myself out of there quick enough to prevent major injury ”

I don’t care how good Max Scherzer is right now, it’s unbelievable the Mets gave the soon to be 38 year old 3 years $130 mil contract through his age 40 season with how much he’s been banged up the past few years https://t.co/5NEw5G6Tnz pic.twitter.com/xaCFfxeWVV — Talkin Nats (@TalkinNats) May 19, 2022

Guess Not

A lot of people in the Nationals front office felt last season that at his age (37) and quirky mentality about injuries, that the best plan of action was to move on from Scherzer. While this injury isn’t is not career threatening. You can see where Nats GM Mike Rizzo was coming from in not bending to the will of the fans to bring him back when he hit free agency. They felt it was a long shot to begin with. hence their trade with the Dodgers for Scherzer and Trea Turner for prospects at the deadline in 2021.
