Jessica Marie’ AL East weekend recap 8/1

The Yankees acquired Andrew Benintendi and face the Royals. The Brewers are in Fenway for the weekend.

NEW YORK YANKEES ()

Jameson Taillon pitched six scoreless innings and struck out eight against the Royals. Andrew Benintendi went 0-4 against his former team less than 24 hours prior to game time. Gleyber Torres had the only hit for the Yanks until Aaron Judge hit the game-winning home run in the 9th. The Yanks won 1-0.

Gerrit Cole pitched six innings, struck out nine, and gave up five runs. Judge went 3-for-5 with two home runs. Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-4 with a walk and home run. DJ LeMahieu went 2-for-3 with two walks. The Yanks won 11-5.

Nestor Cortes pitched five innings, struck out five, and gave up two runs. Judge went 2-for-3 with two walks and a home run. It was the 200th of his career. LeMahieu went 3-for-5. The Yanks won 8-2.

Jordan Montgomery pitched four innings, struck out six, and gave up four runs.LeMahieu went 2-for-5 with a home run. Rizzo went 2-for-4 with a walk and home run. The Yanks lost 8-6.

The Mariners come into town for three games. Domingo German, Jameson Taillon, and Gerrit Cole are scheduled to pitch. Luis Castillo is scheduled to pitch in the final game of the series.

BOSTON RED SOX ()

Austin Davis pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and struck out four against the Brewers. Christian Vazquez went 2-for-4. The Sox lost 4-1.

Nick Pivetta pitched five innings, struck out four, and gave up four runs. Christian Arroyo went 3-for-4. The Sox lost 9-4. 

Josh Winckowski pitched five innings, struck out one, and gave up two runs. J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4. Christian Arroyo went 2-for-2 with two walks. The Sox won 7-2.

The Sox head to Houston to face the Astros. Will J.D. Martinez and a couple of others still be with the team? Nathan Eovaldi is scheduled to pitch.

TAMPA BAY RAYS ()

Jeffrey Springs pitched five innings, struck out five, and gave up three runs against the Guardians. Josh Lowe went 2-for-3 with a walk. The Rays lost 4-1.

Corey Kluber pitched six innings, struck out 10, and gave up four runs. Josh Lowe went 2-for-3 with a home run. Brandon Lowe went 2-for-4. The Rays won 6-4.

Shane McClanahan pitched 4.1 innings, struck out four, and gave up five runs. Isaac Paredes went 2-for-4. Brandon Lowe went 2-for-3 with a walk. The Rays lost 5-3.

The Jays come into town. Drew Rasmussen is scheduled to pitch.

TORONTO BLUE JAYS ()

Yusei Kikuchi pitched five innings, struck out five, and gave up one run against the Tigers. Matt Chapman went 2-for-3 with a walk and two home runs. Alejandro Kirk went 2-for-3 with a walk. The Jays won 5-3.

Alek Manoah pitched 5.1 innings, struck out four, and gave up four runs. Matt Chapman hit his 19th home run of the year. The Jays lost 4-2.

Ross Stripling pitched 4.1 innings, struck out five, and gave up two runs. Teocsar Hernandez hit his 14th home run. The Jays won 5-3.

Jose Berrios pitched seven innings, struck out six, and gave up one run. Chapman went 2-for-3 with a home run. The Jays 4-1.

The Jays head to Tampa to face the Rays. Kevin Gausman and Yusei Kikuchi are scheduled to pitch.

BALTIMORE ORIOLES ()

Kyle Bradish pitched five innings, struck out seven, and gave up two runs against the Reds. Anthony Santander went 3-for-4 with a home run.  The O’s won 6-2.

Dean Kremer pitched 4.1 innings, struck out three, and gave up six runs. Adley Rutschman went 2-for-4. The O’s lost 8-2.

Austin Voth pitched five scoreless innings and struck out six. Anthony Santander went 3-for-4 with a home run. The O’s lost 3-2.

The O’s head to Texas to face the Rangers. Spenser Watkins, Jordan Lyles, and Kyle Bradish are scheduled to pitch.

TRADE WATCH

Luis Castillo was traded to the Mariners Friday night. The package given was an obvious overpay. The Yankees acquired a relief pitcher from the Cubs.
