Jessica Marie’ AL East weekend recap 7/4

The Yankees play in Houston for one game then face the Guardians. The Red Sox play in Wrigley Field for the first time since 2012. The Rays and Blue Jays seem to play a week’s worth of games over the weekend.

NEW YORK YANKEES (58-22)

Luis Severino pitched six innings, struck out four, and gave up two runs against the Astros in the random one game. Anthony Rizzo hit his 21st home run. The Yanks lost 2-1.

Gerrit Cole pitched six innings, struck out six, and gave up two runs in the first game of the doubleheader against the Guardians. DJ LeMahieu went 2-for-4 with a home run. Matt Carpenter went 3-for-5 with two home runs. Jose Trevino hit his 7th home run. Aaron Hicks went 2-for-3 with two walks. The Yanks won 13-4.

Nestor Cortes pitched six innings, struck out six, and gave up one run in the evening cap of the doubleheader. Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-4 with a home run. Giancarlo Stanton went 2-for-4 with a home run. The Yanks won 6-1. 

Jordan Montgomery pitched five innings, struck out eight, and gave up one run. The Yankees only got one hit by Josh Donaldson. The Yankees lost 2-0. 

After their day off, they head to Pittsburg to face the Pirates for a quick two-game set. Jameson Taillon and Luis Severino are scheduled to pitch. 

BOSTON RED SOX (44-35)

Rich Hill pitched 4.2 innings, struck out three, and gave up three runs against the Cubs. He left with a left knee sprain. Jarren Duran went 2-for-5 with a home run. J.D. Martinez broke his 0-for-13 slide with a single. Hansel Robles blew the lead by giving up three runs. The Sox lost 6-5.

Josh Winckowski pitched six innings, struck out six, and gave up two runs; one earned. Jarren Duran went 2-for-4. The Sox lost 3-1.

Connor Seabold pitched four innings, struck out four, and gave up one run. Rafael Devers went 2-for-6. Christian Vazquez went 2-for-5. Christian Arroyo went 2-for-3 with two walks. Franchy Cordero went 2-for-5. Xander Bogaerts left the game due to a left thigh laceration. He needed seven stitches and is day to day. The Sox won 4-2.

The Rays come into town for three games. Nick Pivetta is scheduled to pitch.

TAMPA BAY RAYS (43-36)

Matt Wisler pitched one scoreless inning as the opener against the Blue Jays. Yandy Diaz went 2-for-3 with a walk. Isaac Paredes hit his 11th home run. The Rays lost 4-1.

Corey Kluber pitched three innings, struck out one, and gave up five runs. Ji-Man Choi went 2-for-4. Harold Ramirez went 2-for-4. The Rays lost 9-2. 

Shane McClanahan pitched seven innings, struck out 10, and gave up one run in the first game of the doubleheader. Wander Franco went 1-for-4 with a home run and walk. Ramirez went 2-for-5. Randy Arozarena went 2-for-5. The Rays won 6-2.

Drew Rasmussen pitched 4.2 innings, struck out two, and gave up two runs; one earned. Francisco Mejia went 2-for-4 with two home runs. Isaac Paredes went 3-for-5 with a home run. The Rays won 11-5. 

Shane Baz pitched six innings, struck out seven, and gave up one run. Yandy Diaz went 2-for-4 with a walk. Ramirez went 2-for-5 with a home run. Ji-Man Choi went 3-for-5 with a home run. The Rays won 7-3.

The Rays head to Fenway for three games. Jeffrey Springs is scheduled to pitch. 

TORONTO BLUE JAYS (44-36)

Yusei Kikuchi pitched six innings, struck out eight, and gave up one run against the Rays. Teoscar Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a home run. Santiago Espinal went 2-for-4. The Jays won 4-1.

Jose Berrios pitched five innings, struck out three, and gave up two runs. Lourdes Gurriel Jr went 3-for-3 with a home run. Cavan Biggio went 2-for-2 with two walks. The Jays won 9-2.

Kevin Gausman pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three. He exited the game early due to injury. Espinal went 1-for-4. The Jays lost 6-2.

Thomas Hatch pitched 4.2 innings, struck out four, and gave up 10 runs. Bo Bichette went 2-for-5. Cavan Biggio went 2-for-4 with a walk. The Jays lost 11-5.

Ross Stripling pitched 4.2 innings, struck out three, and gave up four runs; three earned. Vladimir Guerrero Jr went 3-for-5. Biggio went 2-for-4. The Jays lost 7-3. 

The Jays went to Oakland to face the A’s. Alek Manoah, Yusei Kikuchi, and Jose Berrios are scheduled to pitch.

BALTIMORE ORIOLES (36-44)

Spenser Watkins pitched six innings, struck out five, and gave up one run against the Twins. Ryan Mountcastle went 2-for-4. The O’s lost 3-2. 

Jordan Lyles pitched 6.1 innings, struck out seven, and gave up one run. Anthony Santander hit his 15th home run of the year. The O’s lost 4-3.

Tyler Wells pitched six innings, struck out seven and gave up one run. Mountcastle went 2-for-4 with a home run. The O’s won 3-1.

The Rangers come into town. Dean Kremer, Austin Voth, and  Spenser Watkins are scheduled to pitch.
