Jessica Marie’ AL East weekend recap 7/11

The Yankees and Red Sox face each other after a couple of months. The Jays continue their west coast trip.

NEW YORK YANKEES (61-25)

Gerrit Cole pitched six innings, struck out seven, and gave up five runs against the Red Sox. ALl via home runs by Rafael Devers. Josh Donaldson went 2-for-4 with a grand slam. Aaron Hicks went 2-for-4 with a home run and triple. The Yankees won 6-5.

Nestor Cortes pitched 3.2 innings, struck out four, and gave up four runs. Donaldson hit his 9th home run of the year. Matt Carpenter went 3-for-4 with a home run. Gleyber Torres went 3-for-6.  The Yanks won 12-5. 

Jordan Montgomery pitched 5.2 innings, struck out four, and gave up two runs. Hicks hit his 6th home run of the year. Aaron Judge went 2-for-5. Matt Carpenter went 2-for-2. The Yankees lost 6-5. 

Jameson Taillon pitched five innings, struck out three, and gave up six runs. His struggles continue. Giancarlo Stanton went 2-for-4 with a home run. Carpenter went 2-for-3 with a walk and home run. Jose Trevino went 2-for-4. The Yanks lost 11-6.

The Reds come into town for a quick two-game set. Gerrit Cole and Luis Severino are scheduled to pitch. 

BOSTON RED SOX (47-39)

Josh Winckowski pitched five innings, struck out two, and gave up six runs against the Yankees. Devers went 2-for-3 with a walk and two home runs. He was the only one who brought in runs for the team. The Sox lost 6-5.

Connor Seabold pitched 2.2 innings, struck out two, and gave up seven runs. He exited early due to forearm extensor tightness. Devers exited the game due to lower back pain. J.D. Martinez went 3-for-4 with a walk. CHristian Vazquez wetn 3-for-5. The Sox lost 12-5. 

Kutter Crawford pitched five innings, struck out six, and gave up one run. Rob Refsnyder went 2-for-5.  Alex Verdugo went 3-for-5. The Sox won 6-5. 

Nick Pivetta pitched 3.1 innings, struck out five, and gave up six runs. Martinez hit his 9th home run of the season. Vazquez went 2-for-5 with a home run. Franchy Cordero hit his 4th home run of the season. Trevor Story went 2-for-4. The Sox won 11-6.

The Red Sox head to Tampa for a four-game set. Brayan Bello and Chris Sale are scheduled to pitch. 

TAMPA BAY RAYS (45-40)

Shane McClanahan pitched six innings, struck out eight, and gave up one run against the Reds. The Rays lost 2-1 on a walk-off balk. 

Drew Rasmussen pitched four scoreless innings and struck out six. Harold Ramirez went 3-for-5. Francisco Mejia went 2-for-4. Yu Chang went 2-for-3. The Rays lost 5-4. 

Shane Baz pitched 2.1 innings, struck out two, and gave up seven runs. Randy Arozarena went 2-for-3 with a home run. Josh Lowe went 2-for-4. Yandy Diaz went 3-for-4. The Rays lost 10-5.

The Red Sox come into town for a four-game set. 

TORONTO BLUE JAYS (45-42)

Anthony Banda lasted only one out in the first inning and gave up two runs against the Mariners. Santiago Espinal went 3-for-5. Vladimir Guerrero Jr went 2-for-4. Lourdes Gurriel Jr went 2-for-4. The Jays lost 8-3.

Ross Stripling pitched five innings, struck out six, and gave up two runs. Guerrero Jr went 2-for-5. Teoscar Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a walk. The Jays lost 5-2. 

Alek Manoah pitched 7.1 innings, struck out seven, and gave up two runs. George Springer went 1-for-4. The Jays lost 2-1.

Max Castillo pitched 4.1 innings, struck out three, and gave up three runs. Springer went 2-for-5 with a home run. Bo Bichette went 3-for-4 with a home run. Raimel Tapia went 2-for-4 with a home run. The Jays lost 6-5. 

The Phillies come into town for a quick two-game set. 

BALTIMORE ORIOLES (43-44)

Jordan Lyles pitched six innings, struck out four, and gave up one run against the Angels. Anthony Santander went 2-for-4. Adley Rutschman went 1-for-4 with a home run. The O’s won 4-1. 

Tyler Wells pitched four innings, struck out three, and gave up three runs. Cedric Mullins went 2-for-5. Trey Mancini went 2-for-5. The O’s won 5-4. 

Dean Kremer pitched five scoreless innings and struck out seven. Anthony Santander went 2-for-4. The O’s won 1-0.

Austin Voth pitched five innings, struck out six, and gave up two runs. Mancini went 2-for-4. Ramon Urias went 2-for-4. The O’s completed the sweep with a 9-5 win.

The O’s head to Chicago to face the Cubs. Jordan Lyles and Spenser Watkins are scheduled to pitch. 

OUTSIDE THE AL EAST
