Jessica Marie’ AL East weekend recap 6/27

The Yankees and Astros face off for the first time this season. The Red Sox look to continue to play well in Ohio. 

NEW YORK YANKEES (53-20)

Jameson Taillon pitched 5.2 innings, struck out three, and gave up six runs against the Astros. All via two 3-run home runs. The offense had their pair of 3-run homers as well from Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Hicks. Aaron Judge went 2-for-5 with the walk-off hit in the 9th inning. The Yanks won 7-6.

Luis Severino pitched six innings, struck out seven, and gave up three runs. It was via a 3-run home run. Stanton hit his 16th home run of the year. DJ LeMahieu went 2-for-5. The Yanks lost 3-1. This ended their winning streak at home to 15. 

Gerrit Cole pitched seven innings, struck out eight, and gave up one run via the home run. The offense was no-hit. The Yankees lost 3-0.

Nestor Cortes pitched five innings, struck out seven, and gave up three runs. The offense didn’t get a hit until the 7th inning when Giancarlo Stanton hit his 17th home run. DJ LeMahieu hit the game-tying home run in the 8th inning. Aaron Judge hit the game-winning 3-run home run in the 10th to win it. The Yanks won 6-3.

come into town. Jordan Montgomery is scheduled to pitch. Aaron Boone said there is a possibility that a 6th starter comes into play. 

BOSTON RED SOX (42-31)

Nick Pivetta pitched seven innings, struck out four, and gave up two runs against the Guardians. Rafael Devers went 2-for-4 with a home run. Alex Verdugo went 2-for-5 with two home runs. Rob Refsnyder hit his 4th home run of the year. The Sox won 6-3.

Josh Winckowski pitched 5.1 innings, struck out four, and gave up two runs. Jarren Duran went 4-for-5. Kevin Plawecki went 2-for-4. The Sox won 4-2.

Rich Hill pitched six innings, stuck out five, and gave up one run. J.D. Martinez went 3-for-5 with a walk. Devers went 3-for-5 with a walk as well. Trevor Story went 2-for-6. The Sox won 8-3.

The next stop on the road trip is Toronto to face the Jays. Connor Seabold, Michael Wacha, and NIck Pivetta are scheduled to pitch.

TAMPA BAY RAYS (40-32)

Jeffrey Springs pitched six innings, struck out nine, and gave up three runs against the Pirates. Randy Arozarena went 1-for-4. Josh Lowe went 1-for-4. Luke Raley went 1-for-4. The Rays won 4-3. 

Corey Kluber pitched 5.1 innings, struck out six, and gave up two runs. Randy Arozarena went 4-for-5. Taylor Walls went 2-for-4. Isaac Paredes went 3-for-5. The Rays won 6-5.

Shane McClanahan pitched seven innings, struck out 10, and gave up one run. Yandy Diaz went 2-for-5. Josh Lowe went 2-for-4. The Rays won 4-2.

The Brewers come into town for a quick two-game set. 

TORONTO BLUE JAYS (40-32)

Alek Manoah pitched 6.2 innings, struck out six, and gave up two runs against the Brewers. Cavan Biggio went 2-for-2 with a home run and two walks. Alejandro Kirk went 4-for-4. VLadimr Guerrero Jr went 2-for-5. The Jays won 9-4.

Yusei Kikuchi pitched two innings, struck out five, and gave up five runs; two earned. Matt Chapman went 3-for-4 with a home run. Lourdes Gurriel Jr went 2-for-3. Bo Bichette hit his 12th home run. The Jays lost 5-4. 

Jose Berrios pitched 2.2 innings, struck out only one, and gave up eight runs. Kirk went 2-for4 with a home run. Santiago Espinal went 2-for4. The Jays lost 10-3.

The Red Sox come into town. Kevin Gausman, Ross Stripling, and Alek Manoah are scheduled to pitch. 

BALTIMORE ORIOLES (34-40)

Dean Kremer pitched 5.2 scoreless innings and struck out four against the White Sox. Adley Rutschman went 2-for-4 with a home run. Ryan Mountcastle went 3-for-4. The O’s won 4-0.

Austin Voth pitched three innings, struck out three, and gave up one run. Austin Hays went 1-for-4. Trey Mancini went 1-for-3 with a walk. The O’s won 4-1.

Spenser Watkins pitched five innings, struck out four, and gave up one unearned run. Jorge Mateo went 2-for-3 with a walk and home run. Austin Hays went 2-for-5. Cedric Mullins went 2-for-5. The O’s won 6-2. 

Jordan Lyles pitched seven innings, struck out four, and gave up four runs. Jonathan Arauz went 2-for-4 with a home run. Mullins went 2-for-4. The O’s lost 4-3. 

The Orioles head to the west to face the Mariners. Tyler Wells, Dean Kremer, and Austin Voth are scheduled to pitch.

OUTSIDE THE AL EAST

The Phillies called up Mark Appel.
