Jessica Marie’ AL East week recap- 7/7

-The Yankees are in Pittsburg for two games. The Red Sox and Rays face each other in the first of two series before the break. The Blue Jays started their west coast trip.

NEW YORK YANKEES (59-23)

Jameson Taillon pitched 5.1 innings, struck out five, and gave up five runs against the Pirates. Gleyber Torres went 2-for-3 with a walk. Matt Carpenter went 2-for-4. The Yanks lost 5-2. 

Luis Severino pitched six scoreless innings and struck out three. Josh Donaldson, Joey Gallo, Kyle Higashioka, and Giancarlo Stanton all had solo home runs. Aaron Judge and Aaron Hicks both hit grand slams. The Yankees won 16-0.

The Yanks head to Boston to face the Red Sox for four games. Gerrit Cole, Nestor Cortes, Jordan Montgomery, and Jameson Taillon are scheduled to pitch. 

BOSTON RED SOX (45-37)

Austin Davis was the opener for the Red Sox against the Rays. He pitched two scoreless innings and struck out two. J.D. Martinez went 1-for-4. Rafael Devers went 2-for-4. Christian Arroyo went 2for-4. Trevor Story went 2-for-4. The Sox won 4-0.

Nick Pivetta pitched 5.2 innings, struck out four, and gave up seven runs. Xander Bogaerts returned to the lineup and hit his 7th home run. Story hit his 14th home run. Martinez went 3-for-5. The Sox lost 8-4.

Brayan Bello made his MLB debut. He pitched four innings, struck out two, and gave up four runs. Martinez went 1-for-4. Jackie Bradley Jr went 1-for-3. The Sox lost 7-1.

The Yankees come into town for four games. Josh Winckowski and Nick Pivetta are scheduled to pitch. 

TAMPA BAY RAYS (45-37)

Jalen Beeks pitched two scoreless innings and struck out two against the Red Sox. Yandy Diaz and Wander Franco are the only two with hits. The Rays lost 4-0.

Jeffrey Springs pitched four innings, struck out five, and gave up three runs. Diaz went 3-for-4. Isaac Paredes went 2-for-5. The Rays won 8-4. 

Corey Kluber pitched six scoreless innings and struck out five. Josh Lowe went 2-for-5. Yandy Diaz went 2-for-3 with two walks. Taylor Walls went 0-for-3 with two walks. The Rays won 7-1. 

The Rays head to Cinncinati to face the Reds. Shane McClanahan, Drew Rasmussen, and Shane Baz are scheduled to pitch. 

TORONTO BLUE JAYS (45-38)

Alek Manoah pitched 5.2 innings, struck out five, and gave up five runs; four earned against the A’s. Alejandro Kirk went 1-for-4. The Jays lost 5-1. 

Yusei Kikuchi pitched 2.1 innings and gave up four runs. Matt Chapman went 3-for-4 with a home run. Teoscar Hernande went 2-for-4. The Jays lost 5-3. 

Jose Berrios pitched six innings, struck out six, and gave up one run. Scoring came from home runs by Chapman and Bo Bichette. The Jays won 2-1.

The Jays continue their west coast trip to Seattle. 

BALTIMORE ORIOLES (39-44)

Dean Kremer pitched 4.2 innings, struck out four, and gave up five runs against the Rangers. Cedric Mullins went 2-for-5 with a home run. The O’s won 7-6. 

Austin Voth pitched 4.1 innings, struck out three, and gave up three runs. Mullins went 3-for-4. Trey Mancini went 2-for-4 with a walk. Anthony Santander went 2-for-5. The O’s won 10-9.

Spenser Watkins pitched 6.2 innings, struck out three, and gave up one run. Ramon Urias went 1-for-2 with a walk. Adley Rutschman went 1-for-2 with a walk. The O’s won 2-1.

The Angels come into town for four games. Jordan Lyles, Tyler Wells, Dean Kremer, and Austin Voth are scheduled to pitch.
