Is There Enough in the Red Sox Rotation

Just a personal look at what Chaim bloom has given Alex Cora to start this season. Who I think will get the top five spots. I think Bloom missed an opportunity this past month plus to really make a move or three to really bolster this staff and I find that unforgivable. For a team in this market to not go out and spend on the talent that was available was shameful.

No Sale No Problem :

Yea I figure if I keep saying it to  myself it will be true. But we all know it isn’t. For the third consecutive year Chris sale starts the season on the DL ( yep my hill DL. ) Red Sox nation was finally going to get a Sale day in April, until he fractured his rib tossing on his own during the lockout. Call me a Debbie downer but having your seven time all star would have been nice. See you in June Chris

Nate Eovaldi had the lowest FIP (2.79), highest WAR (5.6), and best BB/9 (1.7) mark of any starter in the AL last season. Defense didn’t always make life easy for him (3.75 ERA), but he didn’t flinch. So underrated.#RedSox | #DirtyWater | #MLBpic.twitter.com/OafeGs4sbr — Tyler Milliken ⚾️ (@tylermilliken_) March 28, 2022

Nate Eovaldi :

Nate has been the rock that the Red sox pitching staff has been founded on for the past two years. The injury bug was swatted last year and Nate took the hill thirty two times. Making the most starts since his 2915 season, twenty seven. Coming off his first All-Star season, Eovaldi will be the Sox opening day starter.

Nick Pivetta :

You gotta love Nick Pivetta, no honesty you have to . The intensity he brings on every pitch is going to become red sox legend. With Sale on the shelf Nick is slated to be the Sox number two man and I’m set to see him build on last year’s success. Pivetta attacks the zone and true i would feel better with him as the number three, i think he can hold down this spot just fine.

Tanner Houck, Wicked Slider. 🤢 pic.twitter.com/lfXFQx1YfM — Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) March 25, 2022

Tanner Houck:

Here we go, this is where I’m really missing Chris Sale. relax people ( when i say people i mean myself) Houck has had bad springs in the past so don’t let the two outings Tanner has tossed this spring bring you down. But he needs to get right before his first start in New York. Look on the bright side both his two and four seam fastballs have worked well for him in the past and if his breaking stuff starts to click he should do fine. He won’t be shuttling back and forth to Worcester at least to start the year so that’s a plus. I may have convinced myself.

Tanner Houck — who will begin the season in the Red Sox starting rotation — threw 100.1 innings last year. 69 innings in the MLB regular season, 21 in the minors and 10.1 in the postseason. Will have to be careful with his workload obviously — Christopher Smith (@SmittyOnMLB) March 27, 2022

Michael Wacha:

Okay the flip side to Houck. Wacha has had a very good spring. While Houck is missing his innings marks, Wacha is surpassing them. He has gone over 120 innings in two of the last three seasons. And unlike others I think pitching at Fenway will help his bottom line drop even lower than his 2018 numbers 8-2 with a 3.20 ERA and a WHIP of 1.233,. That’s as “smart people” as I get.

Fact: Rich Hill is older than Chaim Bloom — Bastards of Boston Baseball 🎙 (@Bastards_Boston) March 22, 2022

Rich Hill :

The prodigal son returns and returns and returns. This will be the Milton natives third trip back to the ballpark he grew up loving and pitching for the team he loves. There are three things you can count on in life. Death Taxes and Rich hill putting up an ERA of 3.80 . I hate to admit it but this was my least favorite move Bloom made this year.  Then I started to think, Any man who loves baseball so much he would pitch for the Long Island Ducks to keep his dream alive is okay with me. While he will start the season as the number five guy for Cora he’s willing to do anything and everything to get the one thing he does not have in his career . A Ring.

Thats it people, i hope this will be enough to get the old town team off on the good foot. I truly hope these five hurlers can get Boston to June. And I hope Chris Sale comes back as Chris Sale.
