Humpday Happenings You Might Have Missed


NBA


  • The Los Angeles Lakers overcame LeBron James absence and held off the Miami Heat, beating them 112-109 on Wednesday night. Dennis Schröder stepping up with a season high 32 points, 14 of those coming in the 4th quarter.



  • Despite Kevin Durants 44 point game for the Brooklyn Nets, the Chicago Bulls were able to overcome winning 121-112. DeMar DeRozan and Patrick Williams each scored 22 points helping the Bulls put a stop to Brooklyns 12 game winning streak.



  • The Milwaukee Bucks just barely edged out the Toronto Raptors in OT 104-101 on Wednesday night. Giannis Antetokounmpo pulled off his 2nd triple-double of the season with 30 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists for the Bucks.





NFL


  • New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson will be inactive for Sundays game against the Miami Dolphins. Mike White will get the start for the 2nd week in a row and Joe Flacco will be his backup. Despite this fact the team is still saying they are commited to Wilson and that he is the future of the franchise. Head coach Robert Saleh saying on Wednesday:

“Zach has got all the talent in the world and we have all the confidence in the world in him,” Saleh said. "It’s just like I've said from this ‘reset,’ we’re going to grind with him, we are. Through hell or high water, we’re going to figure out how to get him to where we know he can be.”



  • Davante Adams appears to be set to stay with the Raiders even though it does appear that Derek Carr's time in Las Vegas is coming to an end. Adams saying on Wednesday:

"Yeah, absolutely, I wouldn't have been here or ended up here, originally, probably if Derek wasn't here, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I won't be here in the event that he's not here. That's my boy. Obviously, I've got his back through anything. I think I've made that more than clear at this point. I support him and I support everything that he has moving forward as well, but my dream was to play for this team before he was a Raider, and at this point I want to try to make this thing work and continue on doing what I'm doing here, myself get better and see the team grow and get better as well."



  • Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields will miss the regular-season finale against the Minnesota Vikings siting a hip strain. Nathan Peterman will start for Chicago.





MLB


  • I doubt that this was missed by many people but it has to be mentioned. The Boston Red Sox and 3rd baseman Rafael Devers have come to an agreement on an 11-year, $331-million contract extension. The deal begins in 2023, does not include a no-trade clause but does include a $20 million signing bonus.


  • The Milwaukee Brewers have agreed on a 1 year, $4.5-million contract with free-agent left-hander Wade Miley. The deal reportedly does contain incentives that could push the total value to $6 million.



  • 1st baseman Eric Hosmer and the Chicago Cubs have come to an agreement on a 1 year contract. Chicago will pay Hosmer the league's minimum salary, as well as he is still owed $39 million for the final 3 years of a contract he signed with the San Diego Padres.
