Humpday Happenings You Might Have Missed


NFL


  • Los Angeles Rams quarterback, Matthew Stafford, is expected to clear concussion protocol ahead of Sundays matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Stafford comes back after missing week 10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.


  • Arizona Cardinals quarterback, Kyler Murray, said that he has been dealing with his hamstring issue since week 8 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The 25-year-old stated that he tweaked the injury again the following week which led to his missing the week 10 and will now will likely miss week 11 as well.


  • Washington Commanders quarterback, Carson Wentz, has been out on Injured Reserve for the past 4 weeks after having surgery to repair a broken finger on his throwing hand. Wentz has been cleared to throw but has not been designated to return to practice. Taylor Heinicke will make his 5th start for Washington, he stands at 3-1.





NBA


  • The Phoenix Suns had an answer at every turn and quite easily were able to overcome a 50 point game by Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry. The Suns beat Golden State 130-119 on Wednesday night. Cameron Payne had a career-high 29 points and Devin Booker added 27, with all 5 Suns starters in double digits.



  • Despite missing 2 key players, the Boston Celtics stretched their win streak to 8 games with a 126-101 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. The Celtics were missing injured guards Marcus Smart and Malcolm Brogdon but still managed to put 7 players into double digit scoring. Jaylen Brown led the way for the East leading Celtics with 22 points, Jayson Tatum had 19, Grant Williams 18, Derrick White 16, Sam Hauser and Luke Kornet 15 each, and Payton Pritchard had 14.





MLB


  • World Series Champion Houston Astros ace, Justin Verlander, unanimously won the American League Cy Young in an incredible comeback season. The 39-year-old missed the entire 2021 season due to Tommy John surgery. This is his 3rd time briging this award home, which puts him pretty elite company. Verlander saying after winning the honor:

"I've just really tried to enjoy this ride - and just be very present and appreciate every moment because it was almost taken away from me."



  • Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara is the unanimous winner of the 2022 National League Cy Young Award. The 27-year-old is the 1st Marlin to ever win the award and only the 15th unanimous winner in NL history. Alcantara went 14-9 with a 2.28 ERA, 2.99 FIP, 0.98 WHIP, and 207 strikeouts. He allowed only 16 home runs and finished in the top 5 in a handful of categories.



  • The Toronto Blue Jays have traded star outfielderTeoscar Hernandez to the Seattle Mariners in return for reliever Erik Swanson and left-handed pitching prospect Adam Macko, both teams making the announcement on Wednesday.
