Humpday Happenings You Might Have Missed


NFL


  • Rex Ryan has been an analyst for ESPN since being let go by the Buffalo Bills in 2016, he was also formerly the coach of the New York Jets. He has now been put out there as the front runner to take the Denver Broncos vacant defensive coordinator spot. The 60-year-old has reportedly already met with new Broncos head coach Sean Payton.



  • Dave Canales has been with the Seattle Seahawks organization since 2010, last season serving as their quarterbacks coach. He will be headed off to Tampa Bay this season to serve as their new offensive coordinator. The 41-year-old confirmed the news in a tweet saying:

"Let's go Buccaneers! Ready to get to work, get better every day, and win some championships. Thankful to be part of The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Nation. Let's Get It."



  • The New Orleans Saints hired Joe Woods as defensive coordinator and Todd Grantham as defensive line coach, the team making the announcement on Wednesday. They have also added to the coaching staff secondary coach Marcus Robertson, tight ends coach Clancy Barone and assistant offensive line coach Kevin Carberry.





NBA


  • The Boston Celtics saw the return of starters, Jayson Tatum, Marcus Smart and Al Horford to Wednesdays lineup. The Celtics blew out the Detroit Pistons 127-109. Tatum finished with 38 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists, while Smart contributed 9 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals in 29 minutes of play after his 11 game absence.



  • LeBron James scored 21 points in his 1st game back since becoming the NBA's career scoring leader, Anthony Davis contributed 28 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. The Los Angeles Lakers easily finished off the New Orleans Pelicans 120-102 on Wednesday night. The Lakers 5 new additions after last weeks trade deadline all made their home debuts. Davis saying post game:

“There was a huge emphasis on getting this win. Guys came out and played with a lot of energy and urgency. ... It was only our first game together, but it looked good.”





MLB


  • The Los Angeles Angels and left-handed reliever Matt Moore have come to an agreement on a 1-year contract, the financial details of the deal are not known yet.



  • Right-handed reliever Seranthony Dominguez and the Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to a 2-year deal that carries a club option for the 2025 season. The 28-year-old will get $2.5 million this season and $4.5 million in 2024. The Phillies' option for 2025 is worth $8 million or a $500K buyout.
