  1. Jaylen Brown scored 25 points, Jayson Tatum added 22 points and 12 rebounds. The Boston Celtics ran away with it in the 2nd half beating the Miami Heat 93-80 and take a 3-2 lead in the series. Bam Adebayo scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Heat. Miami faces elimination on Friday night for Game 6 in Boston.

  1. Tyler Bozak scored 3:38 into OT and the St. Louis Blues fought off elimination in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals, overcoming deficits in a 5-4 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night. Robert Thomas had 2 goals, including the tying one with 56 seconds left in regulation. Vladimir Tarasenko and Justin Faulk also scored, Nick Leddy had 4 assists and Pavel Buchnevich had 2. Game 6 is Friday in St. Louis.

The New York Yankees have been plagued by injuries over the last week, now placing outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton and right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga on the injured list prior to Wednesday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. Including these last 2 the Yankees now have 10 players on IL.

  1. Los Angeles Dodgers lost for only the 2nd time in 11 games though still owning the best record in the National League. Erick Fedde and 3 relievers combined on a 6-hitter, Cesar Hernandez had an RBI single and the Washington Nationals managed to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 Wednesday to avoid a series sweep.

  1. The Minnesota Twins placed starting pitcher Joe Ryan on the COVID-19 injured list on Wednesday. The Twins recalled left-hander Devin Smeltzer from Triple-A St. Paul to take Ryan’s spot in the rotation.
