Harold Williams’ Weekly Wrestling: [WWE] 7/14/22

Hello WWE fans, today we will look at the results of recent WWE shows, Shinsuke Nakamura confronting Gunther, Natalya vs. Ronda Rousey, what should be next for Robert Roode and Shelton Benjamin, and Booker T’s future as a wrestler.

RESULTS

WWE Friday Night SmackDown

7/8/22

The Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar) defeated Jinder Mahal & Shanky

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Ludwig Kaiser (w/ Gunther)

Ronda Rousey defeated Natalya

The Usos (Jey & Jimmy Uso) defeated Los Lotharios (Angel & Humberto) in a “WWE RAW Tag Team Title / WWE SmackDown Tag Team Title Championship Contenders” match

Drew McIntyre defeated Butch (w/ Ridge Holland & Sheamus)

Before Shinsuke Nakamura’s match, he confronted WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther. This was good to see because it’s a possible sign that Nakamura will be back in the WWE Intercontinental Title scene soon, perhaps at SummerSlam. He has definitely earned it, as well as another run as champion.

Ronda Rousey defeated Natalya in a little over two minutes, which did not benefit either. Perhaps the intention was to show that Rousey is tough even with an injured leg. However, I think that point was already brought across by her defeating Natalya at Money In The Bank after Natalya injured her. This SmackDown match was overkill. I would have had Natalya dominate most of the match (at least 8 minutes) focusing on Rousey’s injured leg, and then Rousey make a comeback, making Natalya submit, and showing that even injured, Rousey could take everything that Natalya dished out and is ready for Liv Morgan at SummerSlam, injured or not. And Morgan could have been at ringside during the match as a guest commentator, giving her reaction to her future SummerSlam opponent’s impressive in-ring performance. In any case, I would have Morgan retain at SummerSlam. I assume that Rousey’s injury angle will be behind her by then, and a Morgan win would be a statement that her winning the championship was not a fluke and Morgan is a true champion.

RESULTS

WWE RAW

7/11/22

Finn Balor (w/ Damian Priest) defeated Rey Mysterio (w/ Dominik Mysterio)

Carmella defeated WWE RAW Women’s Champion Bianca Belair via countout

AJ Styles & Ezekiel defeated Ciampa & The Miz via disqualification

Alexa Bliss & Asuka defeated Doudrop & Nikki ASH

Omos (w/ MVP) & The Usos (Jey & Jimmy Uso) defeated R-Truth & The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford)

Bobby Lashley & Riddle defeated Seth Rollins & Theory

After Theory’s match, he was attacked by Dolph Ziggler which indicates that there will soon be a program between the two. Which makes me wonder, what’s next for Robert Roode? I would like to see him get another singles run, and I think he and Shelton Benjamin would work a great program together.

RESULTS

WWE NXT 2.0

7/12/22

Giovanni Vinci defeated Apollo Crews

Tatum Paxley defeated Kayden Carter (w/ Katana Chance)

Sanga defeated Duke Hudson

Solo Sikoa vs. Von Wagner (w/ Mr. Stone) ended in a double countout

Indi Hartwell defeated Lash Legend

The D’Angelo Family (Channing Lorenzo & Tony D’Angelo) (w/ Cruz Del Toro & Joaquin Wilde) defeated Edris Enofe & Malik Blade

WWE NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose (w/ Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne) defeated Roxanne Perez (w/ Cora Jade)

MORE WWE

Booker T recently discussed on his Hall of Fame show if he will ever wrestle in WWE again, stating that he would do it if WWE asked him to. Booker T is signed with WWE, but he’s not seen on WWE-TV often. The six-time world champion is still popular, and WWE should be utilizing him more, even if it were something like a short program with R-Truth involving the WWE 24/7 Championship. There could be a title change between the two outside of a scheduled WWE event. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen Booker T in a brawl somewhere that wasn’t a WWE event…
