Harold Williams’ Weekly Wrestling: [WWE] 5/20/22

Hello WWE fans, today we will look at the results of recent WWE shows, RK-Bro vs. The Usos, AJ Styles/Finn Balor/Liv Morgan, the Sasha Banks/Naomi walkout, Rey/Dominik Mysterio, Natalya/NXT, and possible returns for Paige and Beth Phoenix.

WWE Friday Night SmackDown

Riddle (w/ Randy Orton) defeated Sami Zayn

WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey defeated Raquel Rodriguez

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Naomi & Sasha Banks defeated Natalya & Shayna Baszler

Butch (w/ Ridge Holland & Sheamus) defeated Kofi Kingston (w/ Xavier Woods)

Also on this episode, it was established that RK-Bro and The Usos will face each other in a “Winners Take All Tag Team Championship” match this week on, “WWE Friday Night SmackDown”. This is a smart move for a similar reason that unifying the WWE and Universal Championships was a smart move- two tag team champions devalue both championships. Being that WWE has been keeping the Bloodline faction dominant, it appears that The Usos may win, increasing the dominance of The Bloodline in WWE. However, the drawing power of Randy Orton should not be forgotten. He is still one of the top drawing names in WWE, and for that reason, I think he and Riddle should take all this Friday. Meanwhile, The Bloodline would still be dominant because Roman Reigns will still be Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

Average viewership: 1.736 million viewers

Bobby Lashley defeated Omos (w/ Cedric Alexander & MVP) in a, “Steel Cage” match

Veer Mahaan defeated Mustafa Ali (w/ The Miz as Special Referee)

Riddle defeated Jimmy Uso (w/ Jey Uso)

AJ Styles & Finn Balor (w/ Liv Morgan) defeated Los Lotharios (Angel & Humberto)

Alexa Bliss defeated Sonya Deville

Ezekiel defeated Chad Gable (w/ Otis)

Asuka defeated Becky Lynch in a “WWE RAW Women’s Title #1 Contendership” match

After AJ Styles & Finn Balor defeated Los Lotharios, they and Liv Morgan shared a very cool Too Sweet moment. It looks like WWE’s “Club” has a new member.

Sasha Banks and Naomi walking out of RAW was good for the show quality-wise in my opinion because an Asuka-Becky Lynch singles will always be better than a, “6-Pack Challenge” match, where individual wrestlers are not given as much opportunity to shine. As for where WWE goes from here, I think it’s time for them to set Banks free. Both parties went through something like this three years ago, and they worked it out because obviously, WWE sees value in her- but here they are back again in the same type of situation. And this time, WWE had to go public about it because it had an effect on a live show. Sometimes even if you value a relationship, you have to let it go. And it’s time for WWE to do that in regards to their relationship with Sasha Banks.

Cameron Grimes & Solo Sikoa defeated Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams

Lash Legend defeated Tatum Paxley in a “WWE NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament First Round” match

The Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar) defeated The Creed Brothers (Brutus & Julius Creed) (w/ Damon Kemp & Roderick Strong)

Grayson Waller defeated Andre Chase (w/ Bodhi Hayward)

Roxanne Perez defeated Kiana James in a “WWE NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament First Round” match

Nathan Frazer vs. Wes Lee resulted in a no contest

Santos Escobar defeated Tony D’Angelo

There is a rumor that the team of Dominik and Rey Mysterio may be coming to an end soon. As long as it doesn’t involve them feuding with each other (since it appears that Rey Mysterio would not be comfortable with this), I think this should happen. Dominik will never be ready for a singles career until he is given the opportunity to get more experience with singles matches. To start, I would put Dominik in a program with Theory.

Natalya has expressed interest in having a singles match against Nikkita Lyons. It would be good to see Natalya back in NXT. And hopefully matches against Io Shirai and Alba Fyre would be a part of that return.

It would be good to see you back in @WWENXT, @NatbyNature. Against @nikkita_wwe, and with matches against @shirai_io and @wwe_alba added to the list. #WWENXT #OutOfCharacter@WWEonFOX @ryansatin — Harold Williams (@HWilliams13) May 18, 2022

It appears that Paige is teasing a return, and although it’s unclear what form of return she’s referring to, with Sonya Deville losing her (kayfabe) official position, there is now a job opening. And considering that Paige is a former General Manager of SmackDown, she has experience with this type of position.  Meanwhile, Edge seems to be looking at Paige as being a potential member of his Judgement Day faction. If she is medically cleared, that would work as well, with Paige going after the WWE RAW Women’s Championship.

Another person who appears to be teasing a return is Beth Phoenix, and considering the purple lighting, as a member of Edge’s Judgement Day faction, which is represented by the color purple. This would work out well for Judgement Day, as they would then have two members (her and Rhea Ripley) to go after the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship as the faction attempts to dominate WWE.
