Harold Williams’ Weekly Wrestling: [AEW] 2/24/22

Hello AEW fans, today we will look at the results of recent AEW shows, the upcoming Casino Tag Royale, the Chris Jericho-Eddie Kingston feud, Buddy Matthews joining AEW, Jeff Hardy confirming interest in going to AEW, Shane Strickland/AEW reports, and closed circuit.

RESULTS

AEW Rampage

2/18/22 (taped 2/16/22)

Adam Cole defeated Ten

Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Dante Martin in a “Face Of The Revolution Qualifying Match”

Serena Deeb defeated Angelica Risk in, “The Professor’s Five Minute Rookie Challenge”

Jay White defeated Trent Beretta (w/ Orange Cassidy)

RESULTS

AEW Dynamite

2/23/22

reDRagon (Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly) won an AEW World Tag Team Title #1 Contendership Battle Royale, outlasting 2point0 (Jeff Parker & Matt Lee), Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta), FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood), Ortiz & Santana, Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen), The Butcher And The Blade, The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds & John Silver), The Gunn Club (Austin & Colten Gunn), and The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)

Death Triangle (PAC & Penta El Zero Miedo) defeated The Kings Of The Black Throne (Brody King & Malakai Black)

Ricky Starks defeated Ten, “Face Of The Revolution Qualifying” match

AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill defeated The Bunny

Bryan Danielson defeated Daniel Garcia

With reDragon winning the Battle Royale, there will be a Casino Tag Royale match to determine the final spot in the upcoming three-way match where Jurassic Express will defend the AEW World Tag Team Championship. Best Friends or Young Bucks would be good choices for the third spot.

There was also a promo segment involving Chris Jericho and Eddie Kingston on this episode, promoting their upcoming match at AEW Revolution. Based on their comments, their match will be a wild one. It would help drive that point home if this match becomes a hardcore gimmick match, such as a, “No Disqualification” match.

Buddy Matthews made his AEW debut at this show as well, allying himself with Malakai Black. I’m surprised that Matthews is not signed with NJPW. He made his debut with them in November, and Matthews’ opponent was Kazuchika Okada, the biggest star in the company. So it appeared that Matthews was going to be making many more appearances in NJPW. In any case, AEW was a good choice for him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him quickly enter the AEW TNT Championship scene, and since AEW has a relationship with NJPW, returning to NJPW is still a possibility for Matthews.

MORE AEW

Jeff Hardy has confirmed interest in going to AEW. Hardy can help take the company to another level.

There are reports that AEW is signing former WWE superstar Shane Strickland. If this is true, they definitely should do something with him and Tony Nese. Their familiarity with each other goes back much further than their days in WWE NXT together.

AEW’s announcement that their upcoming Revolution PPV event will be available in select theaters reminds me of when WWE did closed circuit in the 1980s.
