MORE AEW
There are reports that AEW Executive Vice President and current AEW TNT Champion Cody Rhodes has been working in AEW without a contract since the beginning of 2022. So of course, this has led to much speculation amongst fans regarding what his future will be, and if that future will perhaps involve WWE. I highly doubt it. What reason would Rhodes have for leaving AEW for WWE?
Money? When Cody Rhodes was wrestling in ROH, he stated that he was making more in ROH than he had been making in WWE. And it’s a safe bet that Rhodes is making much more in AEW than he was making in ROH, especially considering the executive position that he has in the company.
Hate to be tacky but I make triple per match now versus when I was with wwe & ROH offered me double my downside Success shouldn't bother you — AEW COMMUNITY OUTREACH (@CodyRhodes) October 18, 2017
Opportunity? Although Cody Rhodes did see singles success in WWE as a two-time Intercontinental Champion, he is a three-time TNT Champion in AEW.
So, I don’t see any potential upsides to Cody Rhodes leaving AEW for WWE. I see him staying in AEW for the foreseeable future, especially since Rhodes stated to Sports Illustrated just last month that his future with AEW.
As for Cody Rhodes’ TNT Championship unification match next week with Sammy Guevara at “AEW Dynamite: Beach Break 2022”, I think Rhodes will be the one to win. I think if there had been a plan to make Guevera the new and undisputed TNT Champion, the Championship would have been forfeited to him at AEW Battle of the Belts. And as a side note, Rhodes made a quick reference to his rumored contract situation in his promo about the unification match- perhaps the contract status rumor is actually a work.
