Detroit Lions Get To .500 In Win Over New York Jets

The Detroit Lions were looking to sniff .500 with a win on the road against the New York Jets. Greg Zuerlein missed a 58-yard field goal as time expired and Detroit hung on for a 20-17 win over New York on the road.

The Lions won the game on a 51-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Brock Wright on a fourth-and-inches play. No one on the Jets' defense accounted for him on the play since everything else was covered up on the play.

This was an excellent play design by the way. With the win, the Detroit Lions have won their last six out of seven games. Detroit is very much alive for a playoff spot in the NFC Wild Card spot this season. They will be trailing the New York Giants (7-5-1) and the Washington Commanders (7-5-1) by the end of the night for the seventh spot. Detroit owns the tiebreaker over both of those football teams.

Wright's receiving touchdown was his only reception of the football game for the Lions, but it was a massive one. Jared Goff had a solid day for Detroit with 23-of-38 completions for 252 yards passing, one touchdown, and zero interceptions.

D'Andre Swift was Detroit's leading rusher with 52 yards rushing on eight carries and Amon-Ra St. Brown was their leading receiver with seven receptions for 76 yards receiving. It will be interesting to see how the Lions' top offensive players continue to play with the playoff chase on.

Zach Wilson made his first start in a few weeks for the New York Jets because of a Mike White injury. Wilson played well for the most part. He completed 18-of-35 passes for 317 yards passing, two touchdowns, and one interception.

The other Detroit Lions touchdown in this football game came on a 47-yard punt return for a touchdown by Kalif Raymond in the first quarter.

Next week, the Detroit Lions (7-7) next game will be on the road against the Carolina Panthers (5-9), on Saturday 12/24.

The New York Jets (7-7) next game will be at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars (6-8) on Thursday 12/22.
