The Dallas Cowboys finished with a 12-5 record last season. Dallas finished in first place in the NFC East last season, but lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Wild Card Round. The Cowboys have not been to the NFC Championship Game in over 25 years and the same case is with winning a Super Bowl Title. Dallas is always under pressure to win it all.
Head Coach Mike McCarthy is the head coach for now and owner Jerry Jones was displeased with him after the postseason. The Cowboys are always under the microscope every single season. They play in one of the weakest divisions in all of football. Dallas is one of the betting favorites to win Super Bowl XLVII.
Their roster had some turnover during the offseason. What will the Dallas Cowboys roster look like this season?
Quarterbacks
Dak Prescott will be the starting quarterback. He is a very good quarterback but some people think he has a ceiling. Kellen Moore is the offensive coordinator for this football team. Cooper Rush will be the backup quarterback. Will Grier and Ben DiNucci will compete for the third quarterback spot on this roster.
Running Backs
Ezekiel Elliott is listed as the top running back on the Dallas Cowboys depth chart. However, expect a lot of mileage from second running back Tony Pollard this season. Rico Dowdle and rookie Malik Davis will be the third and fourth running backs on this roster.
Ryan Nall will be the starting fullback.
Wide Receivers
Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb will be the starting wide receivers on the Dallas Cowboys. Amari Cooper was traded in the offseason to the Cleveland Browns to relief cap space. James Washington and rookie Jalen Tolbert will compete for the third wide receiver spot on the roster. Noah Brown will most likely make the roster.
Tight Ends
Dalton Schultz will be the starting tight end for Dallas. He may see a bigger role in this offense. After Schultz, there is a major drop-off at the tight end position. Sean McKeon and rookie Jake Ferguson will be the second and third tight ends on the Dallas Cowboys roster though.
Offensive Line
Tyron Smith will be the starting left tackle, rookie Tyler Smith will be the starting left guard, Tyler Biadasz will be the starting center, Zack Martin will be the starting right guard, and Terence Steele will be the starting right tackle. Dallas lost La’el Collins in free agency to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Connor McGovern, rookie Matt Waletzko, and Matt Farniok will be some of the players to watch for also on the offensive line in training camp for the Dallas Cowboys.
Defensive Line
Dan Quinn is the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys and they play a 4-3 defensive scheme. Demarcus Lawrence, Neville Gallimore, Osa Odighizuwa, and Dorance Armstrong will be the starters on the defensive line. Dante Fowler Jr. and rookie John Ridgeway will be some of the players that are also in the rotation on the defensive line.
Linebackers
Leighton Vander Esch, Micah Parsons, and Jabril Cox will be the starting linebackers for Dallas. Parsons won the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award last season and is one of the betting favorites to win the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award though. Luke Gifford will be another player to watch for during training camp at the linebacker position.
Secondary
The secondary seemed to be a weakness for the Dallas Cowboys last season. Anthony Brown and Trevon Diggs will be the starting cornerbacks. Diggs had double-digit interceptions last season, but he was burned a lot. Jourdan Lewis will be the nickel back. Kelvin Joseph will be the fourth cornerback on the roster. Nahshon Wright will have a chance to also crack the roster though.
Malik Hooker and Jayron Kearse will be the starting safeties for Dallas. Donovan Wilson and Israel Mukuamu will be the backup safeties.
Special Teams
The Dallas Cowboys had one of the better special teams units in the NFL last season though. Rookie Jonathan Garibay will be the starting kicker, Bryan Anger will be the starting punter, and Jake McQuaide will be the long snapper.
