Dallas Cowboys Draft Needs

The Dallas Cowboys will have the 24th overall pick in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft. Dallas finished first in the NFC East last season before flaming out against the San Francisco 49ers on NFL Wild Card Weekend in the NFC. The Cowboys will have Super Bowl expectations next season and they need some help.

They are coached by Mike McCarthy and Stephen Jones and Jerry Jones calls all of the shots in the NFL Draft room. What are some of the potential needs for the Dallas Cowboys in the upcoming 2022 NFL?

Interior Offensive Line

The Dallas Cowboys once upon a time had the best offensive line in the NFL. They are getting older on that unit and the interior on the offensive line has not been the same for them ever since. Dallas is lucky that this is a very deep offensive line draft. Three of the potential options could be Tyler Linderbaum from Iowa, Kenyon Green from Texas A & M, and Zion Johnson from Boston College.

Linderbaum is more of a center and the Cowboys don’t need help there. Green would be a perfect fit for Dallas because he can play left guard or right guard on day one. He is probably a better prospect than Johnson is.

Wide Receiver

With Amari Cooper being traded to the Cleveland Browns, they are down to just having CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup. They need another talented wide receiver in that room. There will be plenty to choose from in this NFL Draft. Chris Olave from Ohio State, Treylon Burks from Arkansas, and Jahan Dotson from Penn State could potentially be available in this spot.

Olave could be gone by this selection. The Dallas Cowboys would trip over themselves if he is still available at the 24th overall selection. He is a very fast wide receiver. Chris Olave can play in the slot and on the outside. Treylon Burks is a big physical body that the Dallas Cowboys desperately need at the wide receiver position and he is not very fast. Jahan Dotson is a speedy wide receiver, can catch passes in traffic in the slot, and can also be useful on special teams for offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

Best Defensive Player Available

The Dallas Cowboys defense improved immensely last year under defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and he is back for another season. Dallas has playmakers on defense like Leighton Vander Esch and Trevon Diggs. Micah Parsons is also a beast. Three potential candidates could be Devonte Wyatt, (DL), Georgia, Devin Lloyd, (LB), Utah, and Nakobe Dean, (LB), Georgia.

Wyatt would give the Dallas Cowboys defensive line an extra boost in the pass-rushing game and also the run-stopping game. Lloyd would be an excellent player in Quinn’s defensive system. He is very athletic in the middle of the field in the pass defense game and the run-stopping game (elite tackler). Dean would also be a very good linebacker in this defensive system. He is also a tackling machine.
