Boston Bats Remain Silent

After an embarrassing three game set vs the Yankees at Fenway the Red Sox looked to get their bats right against the Orioles. Boston managed just three runs a game against their hated rivals getting swept at home in front of capacity crowds. A trip to Baltimore was just what the Dr. ordered for the “Old Town Team.” Only no one went to the pharmacy to pick up the prescription.

“Offensively we didn’t do much. There were a lot of empty at-bats, We didn’t put pressure on them. We are an offensive team. We’re a lot better than what we showed today. A lot of quick outs.” Alex Cora Said in his post game chat with the media

Against the team with the worst ERA in MLB Boston managed three hits on the night two by Hunter Renfrow including a Solo shot and another solo dinger by Kyle Schwarber. . That was it. Facing the worst pitching in not only the American League but in BASEBALL.

“They got us out, and there’s not much left to say,” said Schwarber. “You’ve got to be able to move on from it. It’s just one of those that leaves you scratching your head. And you’ve got to be able to turn the page. There’s nothing that we can do about this game anymore. We have to focus on tomorrow.”

Sale Day

Chris Sale was on the hill last night and most of the time that would have been enough for the sox to squeak out a win , but of course with so much on the line even Chaim Blooms Ace in the hole couldn’t keep the sox in front. After sailing through the first 5 innings Chris gave up a game tying two run shot of his own to rookie of the year candidate Ryan Mountcastle. And Bloom’s big deadline move to bolster the pen Hansel Robles couldn’t get the Sox or Sale out of trouble. With Austin Hays on first he gave up a single to Trey Mancini and Pedro Saverino got a gift when he lined a ball under the suspect glove of MVP candidate Rafael Devers for the game winner.

Five for Fighting

Two weeks after the trade deadline I said this is starting to feel like 1978 all over again. After the past four games I’m beginning to think this is worse than that collapse. Everyone on the team is gripping the bat too tightly, everyone is guessing and guessing wrongly at the plate. They have five games in hand to shake this off and shut up this writer. Can they do it ? Can they put it away before Sunday and save Sale for the one game play-in ? Your guess is as good as mine.
