Astros Odorizzi Leaves Fenway On a Stretcher After Leg Injury

Houston Astros right-hander Jake Odorizzi fell flat on his face with a leg injury while running to cover first base on a sharp hit ball to the right side of the infield the fifth inning Monday night against the Boston Red Sox and was taken off the Fenway Park field on a stretcher. He had entered the game riding a 15.2 inning shutout streak but was charges with a run in the fifth.

at the moment it happened speculation of a  Hamstring or Achilles tendon injury were talked about by Dave O’Brien and Kevin Youkilis.

The team said he had “left lower leg discomfort,” and manager Dusty Baker said Odorizzi would get an MRI. The pitcher was on crutches, in a boot and in good spirits after the game, Baker said.

“He’s probably doing better than it looked like on the mound,” Baker said.

Odorizzi, appeared to twist his left leg awkwardly on the delivery to Kiké Hernandez. When he turned to cover first base, he took a step and then sprawled out, face down, on the grass. The pitcher laid there while trainers and Dusty Baker rushed from the dugout to check him. Medics were called to the field almost immediately and took Odorizzi from the field for further medical treatment.
