Asdrubal Cabrera Starts Brawl in Venezuelan Winter League

Updated: Nov 26, 2022

Two-time MLB All-Star Asdrubal Cabrera, got a tad bit upset and started a brawl in a game in the Venezuelan Winter League on Saturday night.

The Caribes de Anzoategui and Tiburones de La Guaira got together Saturday night to play a ballgame, you know as you do in that hemisphere this time of year. no one in the crowd or on the benches expected a free WWE event. Carlos Castro, who plays for Tiburones, hit a home run and watched it sail out of the ballpark. But it appeared that the former Cleveland Indian All Star and NY Mets second basemen Cabrera, who last played for the Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks in 2021, took issue with Castro pimping on his pitcher. And reminded the kid in no uncertain terms, It's called a Home Run not a Home Walk.

Castro’s longball gave his team a 4-3 lead and Tiburones would win the game 6-4.

Cabrera, now 37, was an All-Star for the Cleveland Indians in 2011 and 2012 before he made his way to the New York Mets in 2016. He got a World Series ring playing with the Washington Nationals in 2019 but hasn’t played in the majors since the 2021 season.

Castro, 28, was in the Atlanta Braves’ farm system from 2012-2017 but never made it to the show. He bounced around the independent leagues ( I think my son struck him out twice last fall), before playing in the Venezuelan Winter League this year.
