AL East weekend recap 8/8

The Yankees face a former teammate who helped them earlier this year. The Red Sox hoped to get back on track against the Royals. The Jays and Rays look to gain ground in the standings.

NEW YORK YANKEES (70-39)

Nestor Cortes pitched 5.1 innings, struck out four, and gave up two runs against the Cardinals. Aaron Judge went 2-for-4 with a walk. Matt Carpenter went 2-for-5. Clay Holmes blew the lead in the 8th inning. The Yankee pitching hasn’t been its best for the past month. The Yankees lost 4-3.

Domingo German was tasked with pitching against former teammate Jordan Montogmery. He pitched five innings, struck out three, and gave up one run. Kyle Higashioka and Judge were the only ones that got hits. The Yanks lost 1-0.

Frankie Montas made his Yankee debut. He pitched three innings, struck out two, and gave up six runs. DJ LeMahieu went 2-for-6 with a home run. Gleyber Torres went 3-for-5. Aaron Hicks went 3-for-4. The Yanks lost 12-9.

The Yankees head to Seattle to face the Mariners. Jameson Taillon, Gerrit Cole, and Nestor Cortes are scheduled to pitch. The Yankees will see Luis Castillo again.

BOSTON RED SOX ()

Nick PIvetta pitched five innings, struck out five, and gave up three runs against the Royals. Tommy Pham went 1-for-4. Rafael Devers went 1-for-3 with a walk. Christian Arroyo went 2-for-4. Kevin Plawecki went 2-for-4. The Sox lost 7-3.

Josh Winckowski pitched five innings, struck out four, and gave up one run. Xander Bgoaerts went 4-for-5. Alex Verdugo went 3-for-4 with a walk. J.D. Martinez went 1-for-5. The Sox won 7-4.

Nathan Eovaldi pitched six innings, struck out seven, and gave up four runs. Alex Verdugo went 2-for-4 with a home run. Arroyo went 3-for-4. The Red Sox lost 5-4.

Kutter Crawford pitched five innings, struck out four, and gave up five runs. Tommy Pham went 2-for-5 with a home run. Dever hit his 24th home run of the year. The Sox lost 13-5.

The Braves come into town for two games. Rich Hill and Nick Pivetta are scheduled to pitch. Then a one-game makeup game against the Orioles. Josh Winckowski is scheduled to pitch that day.

TAMPA BAY RAYS (58-50)

Jeffrey Springs pitched six innings, struck out six, and gave up two runs; none earned against the Tigers. Brandon Lowe went 3-for-4 with a home run. Randy Arozarena went 4-for-5. The Rays won 6-2.

Corey Kluber pitched six innings, struck out five, and gave up three runs. Brandon Lowe went 2-for-4 with a walk. The Rays won 5-3.

Shane McClanahan pitched 6.1 innings, struck out three, and gave up four runs. David Peralta went 2-for-4. Isaac Paredes went 2-for-5. Yu Chang went 2-for-4 with a home run. The Rays lost 9-1.

Drew Rasmussen pitched three scoreless innings and struck out two. Paredes went 2-for-5. Luke Raley went 2-for-3. The Rays won 7-0.

The Rays head to Milwaukee for two games. Jeffrey Springs is scheduled to pitch.

TORONTO BLUE JAYS (60-48)

Alek Manoah pitched six innings, struck out five, and gave up two runs against the Twins. Vladimir Guerrero Jr went 2-for-5 with a home run. The Jays won 9-3.

Jose Berrios pitched 3.2 innings, struck out one, and gave up five runs. Vladimir Guerrero Jr went 2-for-4 with a home run. Whit Merrifield went 2-for-5. The Jays lost in extra innings 6-5.

Mitch White pitched 4.2 innings, struck out three, and gave up two runs. Bo Bichette went 2-for-4 with a home run. Vladimir Guerrero Je went 2-for-5. The Jays lost 7-3.

Kevin Gausman pitched six scoreless innings and struck out five. Teoscar Hernandez went 2-for-4. Lourdes Gurriel Jr went 2-for-5. The Jays won 3-2.

The Blue Jays head to Baltimore to face the Orioles. Yusei Kikuchi, Alek Manoah, and Jose Berrios are scheduled to pitch.

BALTIMORE ORIOLES (54-56)

Dean Kremer pitched 6.1 scoreless innings and struck out two against the Pirates. Cedric Mullins went 2-for-4. Ryan Mountcastle went 2-for-4. Terrin Vavra went 3-for-4. The O’s won 1-0.

Austin Voth pitched five innings, struck out five, and gave up three runs. Adley Rutschman went 2-for-3 with two walks. The O’s won 6-3.

Spenser Watkins pitched 5.1 innings, struck out five, and gave up four runs. Jorge Mateo went 2-for-3 with a home run. The O’s lost 8-1.

The Blue Jays come into town. Jordan Lyles, Kyle Bradish, and Dean Kremer are scheduled to pitch. Then the Orioles head to Fenway for one game.

OUTSIDE THE AL EAST
