AL East weekend recap 7/25

The All-Star break is over. The Blue Jays and Red Sox go head-to-head. The Yankees head to Baltimore after losing the doubleheader to the Astros.

NEW YORK YANKEES (66-31)

Jameson Taillon went 2.2 innings, struck out two, and gave up two runs against the Orioles. Aaron Judge hit two home runs. Joey Gallo hit his 12th home run. Michael King came in relief for one inning but exited due to a fracture on the elbow. The Yankees are waiting for the results from the MRI. The Yankees won 7-6.

Gerrit Cole pitched six innings, struck out six, and gave up four runs; three earned. DJ LeMahieu went 2-for-5. Aaron Judge went 4-for-5. The Yanks lost 6-3. 

Nestor Cortes pitched six scoreless innings and struck out seven. Judge went 2-for-4 with a walk and home run. Gleyber Torres went 2-for-4. Aaron Hicks went 2-for-4 with a walk. The Yanks won 6-0.

The Yankees head back to New York as a road team to face the Mets. Jordan Montgomery and Domingo German are scheduled to pitch.

BOSTON RED SOX (48-48)

Nathan Eovaldi pitched 2.2 innings, struck out three, and was charged with nine runs against the Blue Jays. Christian Vazquez went 3-for-4 with two home runs. Kevin Plawecki went 3-for-4. Jackie Bradley Jr hit his second home run. The Sox lost 28-5.

Kutter Crawford pitched six innings, struck out four, and gave up three runs. Bobby Dalbec went 2-for-4 with a home run. Alex Verdugo went 2-for-4. The Sox lost 4-1.

Brayan Bello pitched four innings, struck out two, and gave up five runs. Jarren Duran went 2-for-4 with a walk. Jackie Bradley Jr went 2-for-4 with a home run. The Sox lost 8-4.

The Guardians come into town for four games. Nick Pivetta is scheduled to pitch.

TAMPA BAY RAYS (52-43)

Drew Rasmussen pitched five innings, struck out four, and gave up one run against the Royals. Brandon Lowe went 2-for-4. Francisco Mejia went 2-for-4. The Rays won 7-3. 

Luis Patino pitched four innings, struck out three, and gave up three runs. Francisco Mejia went  2-for-4. The Rays lost 6-3.

Jeffrey Springs pitched 4.1 innings, struck out two, and gave up two runs; one earned. Yandy Diaz went 2-for-4 with a home run. Randy Arozarena went 2-for-4. The Rays lost 4-2.

The Rays head to Baltimore for four games. Corey Kluber, Shane McClanahan, and Drew Rasmussen are scheduled to pitch.

TORONTO BLUE JAYS (53-43)

Kevin Gausman pitched five innings, struck out 10, and gave up three runs against the Red Sox. Matt Chapman went 3-for-6 with a home run. Teoscar Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a home run and a walk. Bo Bichette went 3-for-5. Raimel Tapia went 3-for-7 with an inside-the-park grand slam. The Jays won 28-5.

Alek Manoah pitched six innings, struck out seven, and gave up one run. George Springer went 1-for-3 with a walk. The Jays won 4-1. 

Ross Stripling pitched four innings, struck out one, and gave up two runs. Springer went 2-for-6. Vladimir Guerrero Jr went 4-for-5. Raimel Tapia went 3-for-5. The Jays won 8-4.

The Cardinals come into town. Jose Berrios and Kevin Gausman are scheduled to pitch.

BALTIMORE ORIOLES (47-48)

Tyler Wells pitched five innings, struck out four, and gave up five runs against the Yankees. Anthony Santander went 2-for-5 with a home run. Cedric Mullins went 2-for-4 with a walk. Adley Rutschman went 2-for-4 with a walk. The O’s lost 7-6.

Jordan Lyles pitched five innings, struck out two, and gave up three runs. Ramon Urias went 3-for-4 with a home run. Cedric Mullins went 2-for-3. The O’s won 6-3. 

Dean Kremer pitched 5.1 innings, struck out six, and gave up four runs. Tyler Nevin went 2-for-4. Adley Rutschman went 2-for-3 with a walk. The O’s lost 6-0.

The Rays come into town. Austin Voth, Spenser Watkins, Tyler Wells, and Jordan Lyles are scheduled to pitch. 

TRADE WATCH

Yankees, Astros, Dodgers, and Blue Jays are reported to be very interested in acquiring starting pitcher, Luis Castillo, from the Reds.
