AL East weekend recap- 6/20

The Yankees and Jays look to try to gain ground on each other. The Red Sox face the Cardinals. The Orioles hope to continue to be spoilers.

NEW YORK YANKEES (49-17)

Jordan Montgomery pitched six innings, struck out five, and gave up two runs against the Blue Jays. Joey Gallo went 2-for-4 with a home run. Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-3 with a walk and a grand slam. Giancarlo Stanton hit his 14th home run. DJ LeMahieu went 3-for-5 with a home run. The Yanks won 12-3.

Jameson Taillon pitched 5.2 scoreless innings and struck out eight. Gleyber Torres went 2-for-4. Aaron Hicks went 2-for-4. The Yankees won 4-0.

Luis Severino pitched five innings, struck out nine, and gave up five runs. Torres went 3-for-5 with a home run. Josh Donaldson hit his 6th home run. Kyle Higashioka hit his 4th home run. Rizzo hit his 18th home run. The Yanks lost 10-9.

The Yankees head to Tampa to face the Rays. Gerrit Cole is scheduled to pitch.

BOSTON RED SOX (36-31)

Michael Wacha faced his former team in game one against the Cardinals. He pitched 5.1 innings, struck out five, and gave up one run. J.D. Martinez went 1-for-4. Rafael Devers went 2-for-3. Xander Bogaerts went 3-for-4. The Sox won 6-5.

Kutter Crawford pitched four innings, struck out three, and gave up four runs. Bogaerts went 2-for-4. Kevin Plawecki went 0-for-2 with two walks. Bobby Dalbec went 1-for-3 with a walk. The Sox lost 11-2.

Nick Pivetta pitched seven innings, struck out 10, and gave up one run. Trevor Story hit his 10th home run. Christian Vazquez went 2-for-4 with a home run. Alex Verdugo went 2-for-3 with a walk. The Sox won 6-4.

Miguel Cabrera and the Tigers come into town. Josh Winckowski, Rich Hill, and Michael Wacha are scheduled to pitch.

TAMPA BAY RAYS (36-30)

Shane Baz pitched six scoreless innings and struck out seven against the Orioles. Ji-Man Choi went 2-for-4. Vidal Brujan also went 2-for-4. The Rays lost 1-0.

Jeffrey Springs pitched 4.1 innings, struck out six, and gave up four runs. Choi went 2-for-5 with a home run. Yandy Diaz went 3-for-4 with a walk. Harold Ramirez went 2-for-4. The Rays won 7-6.

Corey Kluber pitched six innings, struck out six, and gave up two runs. Kevin Kiermaier went 2-for-5. Brett Phillips went 2-for-3. Vidal Brujan went 2-for-4. The Rays lost 2-1.

The Yankees come into town. Shane McClanahan and Shane Baz are scheduled to pitch.

TORONTO BLUE JAYS (38-28)

Ross Stripling pitched 3.2 innings, struck out three, and gave up two runs against the Yankees. Alejandro Kirk hit his 6th home run. Gabriel Moreno went 3-for-4. The Jays lost 12-3.

Alek Manoah pitched 5.1 innings, struck out five, and gave up four runs. Raimel Tapia went 2-for-4. Bo Bichette went 1-for-4. The Jays lost 4-0.

Yusei Kikuchi pitched four innings, struck out five, and gave up three runs. Vladimir Guerrero Jr went 2-for-2 with two walks and a home run. George Springer hit his 13th home run. Lourdes Gurriel Jr hit a grand slam in the 6th inning. Teoscar Hernandez hit his 6th home run. The Jays won 10-9.

The Jays head to Chicago to face the White Sox. Jose Berrios, Kevin Gausman, and Ross Stripling are scheduled to pitch.

BALTIMORE ORIOLES (30-38)

Dean Kremer pitched six scoreless innings and struck out five against the Rays. Adley Rutschman went 2-for-3. Trey Mancini went 1-for-4. The O’s won 1-0.

Kyle Bradish pitched 4.1 innings, struck out three, and gave up six runs. Anthony Santander went 2-for-5. Ryan Mountcastle went 2-for-4 with a walk. The O’s lost 7-6.

Austin Voth pitched 2.2 scoreless innings and struck out four. Anthony Santander went 2-for-2 with a walk and home run. The O’s won 2-1.

The Nationals come into town for a quick two-game set. 

OUTSIDE THE AL EAST

Yadier Molina was placed on the IL with right knee inflammation before the series in Fenway Park.
