AL East weekend recap 6/13

The Yankees and Cubs face each other in the Bronx. The Red Sox finish up their west coast road trip.

NEW YORK YANKEES (44-16)

Luis Severino pitched six innings, struck out 10, and gave up one run to the Cubs. Gleyber Torres hit his 11th home run of the year. The game went into extra innings and Jose Trevino hit a walk-off single to win the game. The Yanks won 2-1.

Jordan Montgomery pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out five. The offense hit SIX home runs. Aaron Judge hit two home runs. Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres, Jose Trevino, and Anthony Rizzo each homered as well. The Yankees won 8-0.

Jameson Taillon pitched five innings, struck out five, and gave up three runs. Matt Carpenter went 3-for-4 with two home runs and a walk. Kyle Higashioka went 3-for-5 with two home runs. Judge went 3-for-6. The Yankees ran away with a win 18-4.

The Rays come into town this week for three games. Gerrit Cole, Nestor Cortes, and Luis Severino are scheduled to pitch.

BOSTON RED SOX (32-29)

Rich Hill pitched 4.1 innings, struck out six, and gave up two runs to the Mariners. J.D. Martinez hit his 6th home run of the season. Bobby Dalbec went 2-for-4 with a home run. The Sox won 4-3. It was announced earlier that Garrett Whitlock was placed on the IL with hip inflammation. Nathan Eovaldi returned to Boston to go through some tests. He is still listed as a starter for Tuesday.

Michael Wacha pitched 4.1 innings, struck out three, and gave up four runs; three earned. J.D. Martinez hit his 7th home run of the season. Xander Bogaerts went 2-for-4. The Sox lost in a walk-off style 7-6.

Kutter Crawford was called up as Nathan Eovaldi was placed on the 15-day IL with low back inflammation. Crawford pitched five scoreless innings and struck out seven. Rafael Devers hit the 2-run home run for the win. The Sox won 2-0.

The A’s come to Fenway for three games. Nick Pivetta is the only starter named for the series so far. 

TAMPA BAY RAYS (35-25)

Drew Rasmussen pitched 4.1 innings, struck out three, and gave up seven runs; four earned against the Twins. Harold Ramirez went 2-fo-4. Randy Arozarena hit his 7th home run of the year. The Rays lost 9-4. 

Shane Baz pitched 2.1 innings, struck out two, and gave up five runs. Manuel Margot went 2-for-5. Kevin Kiermaier went 2-for-5. Randy Arozarena went 2-for-4. The Rays lost 6-5.

Jeffery Springe pitched 5.1 scoreless innings and struck out five. Kiermaier went 2-for-4 with a home run. Ji-Man Choi went 2-for-4. The Rays won 6-0.

The Rays head to the Bronx to face the Yankees. Corey Kluber, Shane McClanahan, and Drew Rasmussen are scheduled to pitch.

TORONTO BLUE JAYS (35-24)

Jose Berrios pitched eight innings, struck out five, and gave up one run against the Tigers. Lourdes Gurriel Jr went 2-for-5 with a home run. George Springer went 3-for-3 with a walk and home run. Vladimir Guerrero Jr went 2-for-5. Bo Bichette went 2-for-4 with a home run. The Jays won 10-1.

Kevin Gausman pitched six innings, struck out four, and gave up two runs; one earned. Bo Bichette went 2-for-5. Lourdes Gurriel Jr went 2-for-4. The Jays lost 3-1.

Ross Stripling pitched six scoreless innings and struck out four. Vladimir Guerrero Jr went 2-for-5 with a home run. Gurriel Jr went 2-for-3 with a walk. The Jays won 6-0.

The O’s come to town for four games. Alek Manoah, Yusei Kikuchi, Jose Berrios, and Kevin Gausman are scheduled to pitch. 

BALTIMORE ORIOLES (26-35)

Jordan Lyles pitched five innings, struck out one, and gave up six runs against the Royals. Tyler Nevin went 2-for-4. Austin Hays went 2-for-5. Cedric Mullins went 2-for-5. The O’s lost 7-5.

Bruce Zimmermann pitched 4.2 innings, struck out two, and gave up seven runs. Anthony Santander went 2-for-4 with a home run. The O’s lost 8-1.

Tyler Wells pitched six innings, struck out four, and gave up three runs. Tyler Nevin hit his second home run of the year. Adley Rutschman went 3-for-4. The O’s won 6-4.

Dean Kremer pitched five innings, struck out two, and gave up two runs; one earned. Anthony Santander went 2-for-6 with a home run. Trey Mancini went 0-for-3 with two walks. Ryan Mountcastle went 2-for-5 with a home run. The O’s won 10-7.

The next stop on the road is Toronto to face the Blue Jays. Kyle Bradish, Jordan Lyles, Bruce Zimmermann, and Tyler Wells are scheduled to pitch.
